8 Minute Video of Concert

Some Pics

The other day I went to a live Dethklok concert. For those of you that don't know who or what Dethklok is, here is a wiki. In short, they are a mock metal band created by Brendon Small. I snagged these tickets as soon as the Duncan Hills Coffee promo was mentioned on Adult Swim one night about 2 months ago. Main reason I wanted to see this concert was because I am a fan of the show Metalocalypse, from which this band originates. Plus, I have always wanted to see Brendon Small live as he is one funny dude.

I took the day off from work and me and my best buddy Mike headed to NYC. After killing the day walking around and catching up we headed over to the Nokia Theatre. Gotta say it was one nice theatre. I could go on about this, but I'll spare you my techie rant. There were 2 opening bands, Soylent Green and Chimera. Now I like some metal. But these guys were hardcore death metal. Like, the kind where you can't understand a word anyone is singing and all the guitar riffs sound just like the last song. Mike turns to me at one point, "I wonder if these guys said to the sound guy 'I want my voice to sound extremely primordial'" Mike isn't a fan of metal (his white shirt was the giveaway), so I gotta thank him for sticking out the entire concert with me.

Finally Dethklok came on. Which really was Brendon Small and his band. But being that the bands persona's are the cartoon characters from the show, there was little to no light on them. The show was presented though video. Each song had a music video that went along with it, with short sketches in between (some really funny). Think of it as a full concert episode to the show, complete with a Tribunal plot to mutate Dethklok fans so they can no longer purchase band merchandise. Check the video to see what I mean. I guess this is similar to how The Gorillaz must have done their shows. Overall the concert was a lot of fun. It was good to hear Thunderhorse and Go into the Water live. These guys can really play.
