Bill Maher rocks. If you missed his monologue Friday night (as I did since I can't afford to get HBO), here is one of his masterpieces:
www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/12/bill-maher-challenges-oba_n_284314.html What truly amazes me is how a person can get away with interrupting the President during a speech addressing a joint session of Congress. Seriously. If I were there and yelled out anything of the sort, I would've been arrested. Have any of you actually sat in that building during a session of Congress? Its like a fortress and quite honestly quiet as a tomb. And when a person is speaking, you don't fucking interrupt them unless you want your ass handed to you. This ain't Parliament. We chose that back in 1776. Its a simple concept called respect, something a great many people in the U.S.A. no longer possess.
Despite the rallying cry on Wednesday night, I feel that yes Democrats are betraying their base. Reaching out to Republicans has already proven to be futile in just about every issue. With control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency, that is a mandate by the people for Democrats to do whatever the hell they want. They don't need Republicans to get anything done! But like Bill Maher says, the president is trying to do the "right thing" and stay decent. Um, wasn't the outburst during the joint session proof that the other side isn't playing by your rules? If that isn't enough proof, then what is? Sheeeesh!
Its like what Ed Schultz said the other day that if Congress can't pass a single payer reform bill, then we should let it go and let the November elections decide. If you neglect your base, you will lose your campaigns. If you try to kill reform like many Republicans are, you will also lose your campaign. Let it be known to all current politicians in Washington, including Mr. President: If you screw us on this issue, we will screw you in the elections. Believe it.
But I'm not going to say the current "plan" isn't a step in the right direction. It most definitely is a great victory for us ALL to no longer be subjected to the tyranny that are insurance companies. Even people who hate government and Obama must agree on that! Unless they actually like not having medical coverage for pre-existing conditions, going into bankruptcy for paying hospital bills, and being denied coverage because of limits. Who in their right fucking mind would want to continue in that current system? Oh, right...but when it all bites them in their collective asses, they should have no reason to bitch and moan about losing everything, including their lives. I'm sorry that we have 25% of this country infected by stupid people who are bat shit crazy. Hell, I'm RELATED to a few of them! But we have this thing called "Democracy" in a country that is firmly a "Republic" and despite our land being owned by big business and insurance companies, We The People still have the ability to make this place in any image we see fit, with a majority rule.
