The Object

The two of us fulfill similar roles in professional life, The_Zeitzev and I. Bright bodies in the Ascendant methinks sometimes; two links on the belt of Orion, the constellation of our paid environment; uber-muses to each other's many and varied errr...victories. So now, in this roundabout way, I ask his advice on three occurences of the last week - an email on Thursday:

"Want info...Not.You guys are such a joke. I get your crap bulk mail all the time, you certainly don't give a shit who you send stuff too I can tell (read that how you will, I know what it means). Where do you get your mailing lists from? I've gotten mail for non existent people, believe me I made the names myself. The degree to which you are successfull is directly proportional to the degree to which people are vain and/or lead lonely desperate lives. The real shame is you charge so much for what might be a small piece of sunshine (however false) in their lives. Disgustedly yours,"

email on Friday...."Dear [Neorelix] Sorry for the delay in replying to your first email. My editor was away and I needed to discuss this with him before replying. Although [Neorelix's company] advertised in our summer issues, it has since been brought to our attention that there is a connection to a publisher with whom we prefer not to do business. We work hard to protect our subscribers and as a result, we are unable to accept your advertisement"

hhmm,.... and today we get a lawyer's letter from our main customer-acquisition err, vehicle, asking, no - telling, us to cease and desist...

The Art of Honouring is a lonely and worrisome burden at the best of times. At the moment the road seems longer, the ground stonier.

But hey - I'm not a father!
