Chapter 2: Time In II

Somewhere in SM Entertainment Building…

Donghae and Kyuhyun are walking down the halls of the company heading to the recording studio. It was the start of another stressful day for them especially for Donghae who hasn’t finished the title track of his younger brother’s upcoming album. Being a songwriter- composer is not an easy job and it takes a lot of effort, time, and motivation to be able to make a song. Right now, Donghae doesn’t have the last but the most important thing that he needs to finish the job- inspiration. These past few days have been lifeless for him. He’s locking himself in the music room in their condominium to make sure he’s focused but it still doesn’t work. His brother told him to go outside and explore the world around him and much to his dismay, he gained nothing. He felt that there is just something or someone missing that could solve his problem.

The two brothers grew up from a prominent family who are known to the public as the music geniuses- opera singers, classical music composers, piano prodigies, composers, songwriters, singers, conductors, etc. The family’s legacy has been passed down from generation to generation and now the torch has been passed on to them. However, the Lee’s expectations weren’t very big as what others would think but the two know that it is a very big responsibility for them because the music industry is at its peak and they have to level up with the best to make their family proud.

At the young age of 5, Lee Donghae started playing the piano and his step brother, Cho Kyuhyun started singing at the age of 3. Despite having different fathers, the two are very close much to their mother’s delight. Kyuhyun was Donghae’s source of strength after his father’s death and he will do anything he could for him. Now the brothers, age 18 and 16 are working as the best singer and songwriter- composer tandem all over Asia.

“Hae hyung, have you finished the title track for next week’s recording?” Kyuhyun asked as he opens the door to the recording studio.

“I’m sorry Kyu, I’m not really inspired to do something today. You know how I work… it’s just, there’s something that I need to hear, feel, or see to be able to finish it. The public’s expectations are getting bigger every time you release a new album and of course the pressure is on me because I’m the only one who makes your title tracks.” Donghae replied as he slumps down the sofa near the controller area (A/N: I don’t know what it’s called, it’s the area where the volume, bass, treble buttons are located. Hope you got that.)

“Aigoo hyung, you could’ve told me sooner so that I could find another composer who can make it for me.” Kyuhyun blurted making his brother sit up with an angry look on his face.

“YAH! How could you say that to me?! I’m having a hard time here and then you’re saying nonsense stuff from that mouth of yours. Fine! Go ahead! Do what you want. You should’ve told me sooner because I’ve been awake the whole night to finish at least a minute of your goddamn song, you ungrateful brat!” Donghae couldn’t help but shout at his brother. He’s been restless because the deadline is coming up and his brother’s attitude isn’t really helping.

Kyuhyun was speechless and he immediately regretted what he said. He didn’t mean to offend his brother. He knew what his brother was going through. He was just acting out of concern because he wants to give his brother some time for himself to refresh his mind and rest. However, he should know better that his hyung is a stubborn man when it comes to his projects. He was the sole reason why his hyung decided to work with SM with the conditions that Donghae will make songs only for him  and by using a pseudonym. Donghae isn’t the public type of person and he didn’t really like to make songs under pressure and deadlines. ‘Making a song with a deadline and business purpose makes the song worthless, the magic and message of the song doesn’t reach the listener. It takes a lot of time to make an amazing song, even though it only takes 4 minutes for people to listen to it, what makes it worth making is that the 4 minutes of that song was the best time they’ve ever had.’ was his hyung’s answer when he asked him to work with him as his exclusive songwriter- composer under the same company. The older man was once a freelance composer who composes songs for entertainment purposes only. But now, his hyung is making songs for him due to his constant begging. He knew that it was stupid of him to say that to his brother.

“I’m so sorry hyung, I didn’t mean to say that. It’s just that you’ve been tired these days and I don’t want to become a burden for you with this album. What I was trying to say was that you could skip this project and take all the time you need to make a new song that I can use for the album after this one.” Kyuhyun explained but he knew it won’t make his brother any better. He already pushed the wrong button and he can’t do anything else to correct that mistake. He just hope his hyung will understand his side in the situation.

“Look Kyu, I’ve been doing this for you for the past 5 albums. I already feel bad that I can only do the title tracks for you because of the deadlines the company set up. It’s the least I could do for you so just let me do it. I don’t want any other composer making the title track for you… you know that very well right? I just need time and motivation for this. I’m sorry for shouting at you.” Donghae approached his shocked brother and pat his shoulder.

Kyuhyun was surprised and just nodded. He was expecting his hyung to shout back at him again, which he rarely does. He just needs to understand his brother’s situation so the least he could do is help him find what he badly needed and he has the perfect idea.

After the argument, Kyuhyun decided to tag his brother along to explore the halls of SM Entertainment with a hidden agenda. They are now going down to the basement where the practice rooms are located. Kyuhyun thought that if his hyung needed an inspiration, it has to come from someone so there they are peeking through the doors in search of someone who can wake his genius composer of a brother from his deep slumber.

“Yah Cho Kyuhyun! We’ve been roaming around here for almost 45 minutes, can we go now?!” An exasperated Donghae pulls the said man’s arm but the other didn’t budge and kept on dragging him around the basement. However, he stopped walking when he spotted two males, one of them seem oddly familiar, entering one of the practice rooms and so Kyuhyun dragged his brother into one of the rooms beside the one where the two males entered not knowing that there was something in that room that could change their lives.

An irritated Donghae got out of his brother’s grasp when they entered the room. He was about to scold his brother when he saw him staring at the clear glass that shows the full view of the practice room beside the room where they got in. He can see the speakers and two male occupants talking. One of them was the guy his brother bumped into last night and the other one was a skinny red-haired guy with a fair white skin, red plump lips and beautiful doe eyes that he had never seen in his life. He was immediately attracted to the guy and so he sat beside his brother on the floor to admire the beauty in front of him.

‘Oh my god, he’s so beautiful. Why haven’t I seen him around the company?’

What he is feeling right now is indescribable, how can someone feel so giddy just by seeing someone he just saw today. Just seeing the redhead makes him smile from ear to ear and when he saw that gummy smile, he can feel butterflies in his stomach. Surprisingly, his musical brain cells started to work and tons of melodies and words ran through his mind and he needs to write and put them together to hopefully make a song for his brother.

‘I can stare at you all day but I have something to do.’ Donghae thought as he stood up, glanced at the redhead who was stretching his legs, and left the room leaving his brother behind who didn’t even notice and just stayed ogling at his ‘princess’.

Donghae ran to the recording studio and closed the door immediately leaning his back and touching his chest. He can feel his heart beating so fast for the first time without any reasons since he only feels like that when he competes on piano competitions when he was 10. This was a different case, but instead of feeling bad, he felt really refreshed and motivated to finish Kyuhyun’s title track much to his excitement.

Back to Mr. Dreamboy…

♫Sexy, Free & Single, I’m ready too Bingo…♫

“Hello? Ohh Donghae hyung… Yeah… But I’m still… Fine! I’m coming!” Kyuhyun hung up his cellphone and ran out of the practice room not forgetting to take one last look at the blonde whose been invading his mind since last night.

---

Meanwhile, on the other side of that room…

Hyukjae was stretching his legs after that encouraging conversation with his best friend when he felt something weird, as if someone was watching him.

“Minnie hyung, the room beside this is another practice room right?” Hyukjae continued stretching his legs still thinking if he was just imagining things.

“Well, from what I’ve heard, it was usually used before but right now nobody uses it because of weird reasons and rumours that I don’t even care about.” Sungmin shrugged but stared at the mirror where the said room was located.

“Weird reasons? Rumours? How so?” Hyukjae inquired, feeling more curious as he sat down on the floor, his attention all on his best friend.

“Hmmm… from what I’ve heard with the sunbaes, nobody even dares to use it or even step inside because back then, a male trainee, who used that room  to rehearse for his audition, fell in love with one of the female trainees who was using this room when he saw her behind that mirror. They say that the occupants in that room can see anybody who uses this room through the mirror.”

“Woah!!! That’s kinda creepy. But isn’t that a good thing? I mean they fell in love with each other, didn’t they?” Hyukjae was confused since the female trainees in the company are single and are dying to date some guys from the male trainees or artists in the company so they should be using that room all the time to ogle at the guys while practicing, and they get to spazz on DBSK too.

“Yeah, they fell in love with each other, meaning they didn’t end up being together. It’s like they were cursed, no matter how much they love each other, fate seems to be cruel to them. That’s all I know. Why are you suddenly curious about this?” Sungmin finds it weird to see his best friend all trivial about unnecessary things because as far as he knows, the redhead only enters the company and goes straight to the practice room, dancing all day and comes out when rehearsals end or when he needs to use the washroom.

“I just feel weird a while ago. It’s as if someone was watching me stretch. Ahh!! Whatever! Let’s go practice.” Hyukjae just shrugged it off and the two resumed practice, but the new discovery still bugging his mind.

A/N: WAAAHHHH!! A fail update by me… Sorry guys, I’ve been busy these past few days and I barely have no time to update. I hope you guys like this. It’s longer than what I thought and I just wrote what’s on top of my head, I just hope it made sense. OTL. I will make another update (I’ll try to finish it by tomorrow *cross fingers*). Comments, violent reactions, suggestions are ALWAYS loved and appreciated. ^^
