News & Rant, or Drink To Good Times and Hit God With The Bottle

Hello, everyone. I know it has been quite a while since my last bloggingery, but life has been oscillating quickly from bad to okay and back to bad again - finally settling, in recent days, in the good category. Fucking finally.

After having been unemployed for 4 months (of my own volition I know, but let it drift) I was offered a job as merchandise coordinator for Target corporate in downtown Minneapolis starting on Nov. 26th. Not only is it a job but it also seems to be a rather good job: 9-5 mon-fri, 50% more than I was making at B&N, and several prospect for advancement. It's an odd feeling to wake up in the morning and not have to burn several hours in fruitless searching on various employment websites. I'd half forgotten what a true day off felt like.

In other news (not even tangentially related), on Sunday the Star Tribune (the saddest excuse for a journalistic publication the greater Minnesota area has) posted an online story in their continued Republican-leaning clap-trappery. Not only was the information contained therein of negligible news-worthiness (it's a sad state of affairs when a politician being AGAINST TORTURE is of such rarity as to be considered interesting) but the Star Trib seems to pay so little attention to the worthless text they print that for a full 12 hours the story was posted thusly:

It's one thing for fascists and hysterics and reductive quasi-intellectuals to control the very governance of the nation I occasionally claim as "home". It's something entirely different when, in their mad scramble to lie to me, they don't even bother putting requisite effort into said lying.

Let's talk about Obama taking swipes at Hillary during a debate instead of the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the party system.

Let's talk about who's soft on terrorism and who's pro-defense instead of the government making every taxpayer (every last one of us) implicitly culpable in the torture of human beings.

Let's talk about what vacuous starlet du jour is in rehab instead of what values we as a society want to instill in children.

Let's talk about the bubbling miasma the media has decided we are better off spending our time contemplating instead of who we are, what we are, where all of this is going.

Peace.
