Chester the Pig

Apr 12, 2009 08:14

Chester, my one remaining guinea pig, had a tooth extraction on Thursday. His tooth had started growing in crookedly, so it, and the matching lower tooth, had to be pulled. On Friday morning, he was recovering well, but on Friday night he seemed a little lethargic, and when I woke up on Saturday morning he was dead. Recently dead--still soft and ( Read more... )

{{hugs}} I'm so sorry. You were a really good pig daddy though. They were all lucky to have you.

Well, I didn't handle them every day, so I wasn't ideal. But I think they liked me, and finally, in the past 6 months, Chester started letting me hold him on his back, with his belly up, and would even squeak as I rubbed his belly. I'd been wanting him to be that comfortable with me for years, and I'm glad he finally got there in his old age.

I, too, just experienced a pig passing this past Friday. One of my females died. She was, as best I could recall, about six years old. It was unexpected because she was perfectly fine the night before for her carrots, but she had some health problems early on (she miscarried her litter and had to have a lump removed a few years ago).

We still have four pigs, two males and two females, but a few of them are getting up there. Ron is only about 7-8 months old, give or take. He'll be around for some time. But I do hear you about the eerie calm and quiet, as Squeaks (hence the name) was the squeakiest of them all.

Oh, I recall seeing your post, but I didn't know what to write, and I didn't think to connect that to Chester's death. Yes, it's really surprising how fast they go, and how little warning they give.

Enjoy your pigs, and your piglet. I remember having a piglet--so shy yet curious. I was always freaked out when he popcorned, though, since I thought it looked like he was itchy, but apparently it means excited happiness.

Now that the "crazy guinea pig dude" is no longer factual, we're down to just "crazy dude" -- though perhaps hang-gliding can work itself in there somehow :)

Sorry for your loss, man.

Man, I was always "crazy pomegranate guy," and that won't change now. You just didn't take as many classes with me, so you didn't see it as much. Ask Subbu--when I'm in practice, and don't have too many notes to take, I can eat 2-3 pomegranates in an hour-and-a-half class.

And thanks for the condolences. Chester was a good pig.
