The Man Who Could Not Smile
By: Nellie and Kelly
There once was a man named Kyle
Who, try as he might, could not smile
He walked a mile
In denial
That he could not smile
He walked a bride down an aisle
His cheery grandmother he would dial
He was good at fixing bathroom tile
But the one fact he couldn’t file
Was the fact he couldn’t smile
His best friend Lyle
Took a vacation to an isle
For a while
Hundreds of beautiful pictures of the Nile
Were on Kyle’s lap in a pile
But still, he could not smile
“Lyle,” started Kyle
“Why do people think I’m so vile?
Half the time I feel in exile
As if I were nothing but bile
Or that I would start a rile
Oh, Lyle! I wish I could smile!”
Lyle looked upon his poor friend Kyle
And said “I’m sorry about your trial
And the fact that you cannot smile
And I wish that I could style
You the perfect smile
But I can’t so I’ll
Just take you the way you are Kyle.”
And through tear-stained eyes Kyle
Began to crack his first smile
For it was the love of his friend Lyle
That made him happy enough to smile
This is the end of the tale of Kyle
The man who was finally able to smile
