Devil May Cry 4

I've finished Devil May Cry 4 (on Devil Hunter, aka Normal).

The game is a worthy addition to the series. It's been made a little more friendly for the casual player: it seems in general easier (with a couple of exceptions, most of the bosses took 2-3 attempts at most), continuing is much more forgiving than in earlier games in the series (in part this may be because levels are longer), and if you fail enough times against one enemy, the enemy gets weaker (though this does assess a penalty to your score).

As far as games-where-you-play-the-same-levels-twice go, it's one of the better specimens that I've played, since Dante has his own methods of solving problems that are sometimes entirely distinct from Nero's methods. Possibly I'm just inept at the kind of silly timing games that Nero (arguably the game's main character) requires, possibly previous Dante experience carries over in a meaningful way, or possibly Dante's levels are just easier than Nero's, but for whatever reason I found the back half of the game (with the exception of the last two levels) to be significantly easier than the front. Dante's portion of the game was also full of gratuity, but that's par for the course :-)
