Currently my work is being shown in two art exhibitions. (Soon might be 3)
Exhibition: "I Wonder" - Dec 20 to March 20
Location: Kids in the Hall Bistro in City Hall on Churchill Square. Bistro open Mondays: 8:00-2:30 and Tuesday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Admission: I'm assuming Free - it's a Bistro after all.
Background info: My art 30 teacher decided to keep some of my work and enter them in different exhibitions. This one was submitted into "I Wonder", which features black and white pieces based on Ainsel Adam's work (though I probably spelled his name wrong). He is a black and white landscape photographer. Mine is a mountain scene done with black watercolor on white paper. This piece is also displayed on the Edmonton Public Schools website (www.epsb.ca) under the Student Artwork Header.
Exhibition: "Free For All" - March 3 to March 24
Location: the Art Gallery of Alberta, 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square. Hours: Mon=closed, Tues/Wed/Fri=10:30-5, Thurs=10:30-8, Sat/Sun=11:00-5:00.
Admission: Free (It says so, so I'm believing it ... usually it costs everyday except for Thursdays after 4 pm ... but this show is "special", lol).
Number of my art works featured: 5.
1- "Unknown" 2007 (Art 137)- plaster and graphite power
2-"Questioning" 2006 (Art 136)- is a collage with paint, pieces of paper (some from old diaries), and my drawings on top ... the different layers come together to form one of my best pieces yet.
3- "Dreams" 2006 (Art 30)- A watercolor painting using wax resist. Subject- flowers. Foreground in cool colors, background in warm. This is my mom's favorite piece (I think).
4- "One to Another" 2006 (Art 136)- Diptych, aka: 2-part artwork. On side is a photocopy of many layers of images from my life, the other is a key drawn (for the shadows) or scratched into (for highlights) with a nib-pen in ink on a chalk pastel ground.
5- "Tangible Connection" 2006 (Art 136) - 12 squares of photocopies like the one used in "One to Another".
Background info: The AGA is going to get destroyed to make way for a new one, so they decided to let it go down with a bang. Anyone who wanted to submit could. Max amount of work was 5, although in the letter I have it said unlimited, so I had carried 9 pieces originally. The line-up I waited in to submit my work was 3.5 hours long, and I got there before it opened on the first day. It opened at 11, I got there about 5 minutes early. Supposedly some came at 8:30 am. 3 of my classmates have also submitted their work. In line I encountered a couple of 3rd and 4th year students at the U of A (in the art program), a man who is a plumber and does art in his free-time, and many others. So there is a really vast range of work on display in Salon style (fill the walls basically).
I also wanted to include (If you wish to see just ask me id you come over):
6- "Reality into Memory" 2006 (Art 30) - chalk pastel of a night in Venice, my mom's second favorite.
7- "Manifestation of Life" 2006 (free time) - watercolor pencil crayon, a tree in a field.
8- "A little piece of home" 2005 (Art 10) - oil pastel still life. The colors work out really nicely and I did a really good job of some of the objects featured in it.
9- "Movement" 2006 (Art 30) - Acrylic Gel and Paint on Paper. Non-representational.
Exhibition: My art 137 class placing sculptures in the Rutherford libary on the U of A campus. Currently the other Art 137 class has there's up, so don't miss that!!
Dates: in like 2 weeks for 2 weeks or something like that.
Piece: a plaster cast of an sculpture of a classmates head in clay. I think I did a good job on it.
