Life and Mix: Ray of Sunshine
Well hello there :)
This here is a celebration of the wonder that is Ms. ashling_lily, aka my little ray of sunshine *beams*
Some of you may know (*ahem*, I was NOT whinging about it, that was your collective imagination) that ash has been without her internet forEVER, and it has now returned, which is cause for great joy. Alternatively, normal service has been resumed, and I am being mocked hideously on a daily basis, but I digress :) Here is a song to express my feelings :D
It was also ash's birthday this week, and I made her a present! She has this epic fic called Dance of the Nightmare, for which I acted as beta. You should all go read it. Basically, it's a horror story, kind of psychological, definitely fantasy. She has ideas that dart in and out of the prose like little silver fish. I'm not explaining it very well, but, you know, read it :D
I thought, given that my art teacher at school used to have to ask me what my drawings were supposed to be of, I would do something I *can* do, and make a soundtrack, so here it is! Ash, dearest, I hope you like it.
01 - Eyes on Fire - Blue Foundation
There was music; soft, melodic, seductive,
rising and falling as the song played.
02 - Club Foot - Kasabian
Fumbling to get the door open,
he fell inside, hands gripping the sink,
knuckles turning white.
03 - Crawl - Kings of Leon
less of a background noise and more
a physical presence, closing in around him;
pressing against his skin, his ears, his heart.
04 - Haunted - Poe
His skin felt just as raw,
his muscles just as sore,
just as exhausted as in his dream.
05 - Taste in Men - Placebo
“One would think you didn’t want me.”
06 - New Amusements - Gene
He felt ill; like he had eaten
a thousand pounds of junk food in one go,
and they had all contained shards of metal.
07 - Animal Nitrate - Suede
That part of you hated what was happening...
But part of you wanted to keep doing it.
08 - Pretty When You Cry - Visual Audio Sensory Theatre
He was relentless, scratching again and again
until he had a long bloody line trailing down Tyson’s skin
and his nail was red.
09 - Where Is My Mind? - The Pixies
Shaking, Tyson looked away, and told him;
told him about the nightmares, about the creatures,
about Metus, about everything.
10 - Cosmopolitan - Nine Black Alps
“This is what you get when you try and break the rules, Tyson,”
Metus hissed, digging his heel into Tyson’s shoulder.
“You get hurt.”
11 - Dark Lines - The Gossip
The next day was awkward,
more so now that there were
visible marks of the nightmares.
12 - Fell On Black Days - Soundgarden
Nick wrapped him up in blankets on his bunk
and left to make him a hot drink or something.
13 - Blood Red Sky - Seth Lakeman
Swirls, strange marks, glyphs,
possibly some sort of language,
were painted across his skin;
colours vary from light purple to maroon.
14 - Falling Away With You - Muse
A pause and the lips were against his,
soft, slow, and entirely unlike Metus’.
“Tyson.”
15 - Laugh, I Nearly Died - The Rolling Stones
Taping shut the last note; he grabbed
a spare shirt and tucked them inside the fabric.
16 - Raise The Dead - Phantom Planet
No, this was his last day,
and he wanted to make sure
that he looked damn good.
17 - Street Spirit - Radiohead
No more glitter,
no more jokes,
no more singing,
no more anything.
18 - Psalm for the Elks Lodge Last Call - The Weakerthans
He would not just leave behind random letters
saying what should have been said now.
19 - Hard Times - Patrick Wolf
“It’s not over. It’ll never be over;
I can’t believe you said that, that you wrote that.”
Nick’s hand tightened in his. “It’ll never be over for us.”
20 - To Lose My Life - White Lies
Nick shook his head, ignoring how his body
started to sweat uncomfortably and
how his skin tightened painfully.
21 - Two in the Ruins - Only Son
“I’m saved. He’s not going to get me,”
he whispered, voice cracking. “It’s over.”
22 - Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
To cry, to breathe, to realise
that they were actually alive.
