Alright, let the barrage of questions begin! missmal July 16 2008, 19:50:37 UTC
First off, thank you so so very much. This was IMMEASURABLY helpful. Seriously, seriously.

Okay, first off ... could you possibly explain threat levels? I never really understood that. Is it something I even need to worry about in casual questing? I notice some spells say "Causes high amount of threat" or something similar and didn't know if that meant the spell was to be avoided so ...

I've been using Corruption but not Curse of Weakness so I'll try that out. I guess the whole ... what was it? I can't remember but it does something good for them, too, no? Anyway, that kept me away but with my VW it shouldn't be an issue anyway. I hadn't been using Immolate mostly because it didn't cause much initial damage but I think I was thinking too much as a fire mage and I haven't really, until recently, understood DoT so if you're using it then I'll start, too. I am indeed destruction but I don't remember Shadowburn ... I'll make sure to look that up. Thank you for the health funnel trick! Him dying has gotten me killed quite a few times.

In terms of minions ... is there any real reason to use the Succubus? I know people have said "crowd control" (which I don't get) but she's so freaking weak. Also, I tried using the Felhunter for awhile and that ... made me miss torment. Should I just stick with the VW until I get my Felgaurd? And my ooooonly thing with respecing is that I'm not terribly good with the making of gold and I heard that can get expensive. (Although, I have to say, alchemy/herbalism are fairly profitable professions so I need to start working on that.) What professions do you do with your warlocks?

Also, could you explain the benefits of using the wand? (Sorry ... so many questions!) I know it's ranged, but isn't it fairly weak? You know what? I'm dumb, I should just try the darn thing out. I really do think I need to experiment more.

Although someone was like, "Warlocks are just Howl of Terror, send them running." Which I get now. Which he meant to be insulting, but I find it amusing. Maybe it'll stop my constant DEATH in battlegrounds. :-)

Okay, okay ... sooooo helpful! Seriously, thank you so much for taking the time out. Sorry to bother with all the q's. :-)

Hey, no prob! I know this is only one style of play so there's a LOT more you can do, but it's what I use, and it's effective for me!

Threat levels are basically the amount of threat that an enemy sees you as. Warlocks, Mages, and Pallys' in MOST cases (not all) seem to pull threat the most, though it's not uncommon for a Priest/healer to be a threat as well. In regards to something I mentioned earlier with the Omen threat meter, watching the meter (if you install it) will tell you who is the most threatening to whatever enemy/target you have in your sight. If lets' say, you have a warrior who's not doing high damage fast enough and you are going fast with spell damage, you'll become more of a threat than the warrior, thus the enemy will attack you instead. When you see stuff talk about high threat, or cuts threat by XX%, this is a good thing to pay attention to.

Curse of weakness is nice for when you're fighting something and your VW is tanking, but at the same time it doesn't do much to the damage he could be dealing. Granted curse of Recklessness increases the damage slightly that they're doing, BUT it cuts their armor level significantly, and I figure as long as the VW is good on health and my curses are doing nice damage, then there's no real worry in using it, he can take it! Shadowburn is a nice spell btw... BUT it comes at a price so don't use it unless the enemy is almost dead, as it costs a soul shard to use. If they die within 5 seconds of the spell being used, the shards' returned to you, otherwise it's lost.

The Succubus is pretty much (in my opinion, anyhow) a pointless pet except for the fact that it has a seduce spell that will keep an enemy charmed/stunned for a while. It's great for raids, because if needed I put the succubus on passive so it won't attack at all, then I'll target an enemy, have her use Seduce on it, and then it'll hold the enemy at bay while the tanks and DPS do their thing on other enemies. Think of it as the Warlocks' version of Ice Trap or the mage's sheeping skill.

Don't worry about repseccing too much. If you do it once or twice a month it's not too expensive, maybe a gold or 5 at most, but yeah it does get pricey if used a lot. However, when you get into higher levels, the gold comes in easily, trust me. At level 32 on my warlock i've got about 44 gold just from her own working with her professions and selling stuff on the Auction House. Not hard to get at all in time. :)

OH! you asked about professions... EXCELLENT choice on Herbalism and Alchemy. That is pretty much a great starter profession set. Keep up with it around the level you're at in terms of what can be used and sell it instead. Make a few things, check the Auction House for the average prices of said item you make, and sell them. Has Shaun set up Auctioneer on your computer at all, or any addons for that matter? If so, Auctioneer and Omen are two I recommend more than anything else, very VERY handy!

As for the wand... the benefit of that is just to keep your threat down. If you've got four or five spells on a target and your VW is doing his thing as well, using the wand will keep your threat from being higher than the VW. It's weak, but it serves it's purpose for that reason. Imagine you're being attacked by the VW taking chunks out of you, or someone else throwing little hits of fire or whatever that barely hurt... who's more threatening? :)

Oh, HoT is AWESOME in BG's, though you gotta be careful around Undead and Warriors, or people who have done a LOT of PvP as they have trinkets they wear that can break free from fears. Some warriors also have things that can make them un-fearable, i never played warrior though... so i can't say for certain. I know one or two classes always show "immune" when i've broken out the HoT on them, and that's no fun.

Anything else, feel free to ask away! :D
