I'm an idiot...

So let me tell you a story. You see, when I left america I only bought one plug adaptor yet took both my laptop and my shitty external hard drive that requires its own plug-in. So I was doing this dance of switching the adaptor between them. I got a replacement power supply for my laptop at one point because I was having(still am...) problems with my power on my laptop. However it does not work as well as the original power supply, so I wasn't using it but it carries the advantage of having a czech plug. So I gets it in my head, hey if its got the same voltage as my external hard drive and such maybe I can plug it in to the external hard drive which won't have a problem with it like my laptop would! So I plug it in, and nothing happens, maybe I hear a weird sound I'm not sure. I notice the light is blinking on the drive, so I just disconnect it and reconnect the orignal supply so I can pull off some of my anime or something.

Nothing. Its now blinking... WTF? So I go online and after an hour of searching find an faq that doesn't basicly say my maxtor is a piece of shit. It says, if the light is blinking on the supply on its own, replace it, no its fine. But if it starts blinking only when connected to the drive? Your fucked replace it. SHIT.

So I have fired off an email to the company, but I'm kinda screwed here huh? Is their a way to recover the data without paying a shitload of money? Especially since its pretty obvious the problem is mechanical and not data related? Honestly I can live without it, but I have a lot of my personal collection of manga, and some other media and data files I don't want to lose.
