How so? In terms of my manga and anime? ^_^; (I do haz a library of it... and I love it dearly. <3)
Possibly. I'm not sure about how many yuri there are in Japan. My guess is that there's just not as much of an audience for it, over here. Most girls don't read yuri as much as yaoi, and I don't think guys read much romantic stuff to begin with. (Most of the yuri they seem to watch is the stuff I wouldn't touch. But then, I don't touch it for het or yaoi, either... if you catch my drift.)
THANK YOU. Everyone else just makes fun of me for buying series-- they're all "why don't you just download/watch them on the web?" IT'S NOT THE SAME THING. >.<
Exactly! Nothing beats the satisfaction of a brand-new DVD...
Mm, not so much. I think girls tend to value story development in their erotica moreso than guys do, hence the disparity. Not saying it's right, or that one is better than the other. But it is a trend I've noticed.
Then perhaps we have different definitions of PWP. But the reason I rarely buy purely "yaoi" manga is because there is generally too much sex and not enough plot for my tastes. Either that, or the plot is way too cliche. My fave yaois are pairings that are SO OBVIOUSLY CANON, even though they're (I guess technically) not. (IE: SebaCiel, puzzleshipping, etc, etc, etc.)
Well, I haven't bought any yaoi manga besides Fake, Gravitation, Junjou, Offbeat, Only the Ring Finger Knows and Rin. All of those titles include sex (with the exception of Offbeat) but I wouldn't consider any of them to be PWP. And most of them aren't what I'd call "explicit" with the possible exception of Junjou.
So perhaps my perception is skewed by a smaller collection of titles?

I'm woefully inexperienced when it comes to yuri, so I'd welcome any recommendations.

Nope, there really aren't that many yuri series over here... (Possibly because there aren't very many in Japan to begin with?)

Exactly. I think there must be a shortage of non-PWP yuri series out there...

Same could be said of yaoi, I think.
