A Late Night without God

Bonjour y'all!

Well, it's another late night as my sleep pattern's gone to proverbial-hell at the moment so instead of tossing and turning in bed, I decided to fix myself some supper in the form of Tea and Toast (although, I've already finished the toast :() and do something useful. Since I've just finished reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins earlier this evening, I decided that the most useful thing to do would be writing what I thought about it, so that I might waste a few minutes of your time. :p

What can I say about this book except 'awesome'! I really enjoyed reading it. An extremely well put together book which leads you through simple logical arguments regarding God, religion and related subjects. My favourite section, as mentioned to catmint_1984, was the section on morality and the old question of 'where do you get religion from without religion to guide you?' (answer: The same place you do!)

I can see why some people would find this book offensive. On the one hand, you've got those who are personally offended if you question their religion. On the other, those who are offended on behalf of those from the first group to prove how 'culturally sensitive' they are. Having said that however, if you are offended by this book, then you really need to get over yourself because there are plenty of things more offensive out there. *Next line omitted in the name of 'cultural-sensitivity'*

Only in religion would it be this offensive/controversial. If the book were about politics or sports, no-one would care. In fact, it'd be swamped with competition of books about much the same thing. Fortunately, the book deals with that fact early on, and as a continuing thread throughout: Why does religion have a special place in society?

Anyway, I could go on for a while about this (and you know I will, given half a chance) so I'll end this now saying simply that you should buy and read this book. It's a worthy investment.
