Anniversary trip to San Diego

It's been a while since I posted, but I wanted to write something about our anniversary trip to San Diego. It was really nice. :)

Since Minette's best friend and her husband have their anniversary around the same time as ours, we did a 'double date' trip with both families. We arrived in San Diego Saturday and stayed at a hotel called the Blue Sea Beach Hotel on Pacific Beach Drive. Really a nice place, where you can basically walk past the pool and you're already walking on the beach! Our room had an ocean view from the balcony, plenty of towels and there was even a game area in the lobby where you could play classic arcade games like DigDug...for free! :D

We had dinner in Oldtown at Casa De Reyes (where they make my favorite nachos) and Eben was able to join us. It was good catching up with him and I dropped off his Xmas gift.

Sunday was mostly spent at the beach. The kids, Jana and Hezelle, really had a blast building a sand castle (under Minette's architectural authority: "No! No! We need a tower here! Get me a sand bucket NOW!") and visiting the ocean for the first time. Jana was fascinated standing in the water that came in and kept bending down to look at it. She also started saying "Cold Feet!" every time the sea water tickled her toes after hearing me say it. :) We also swam in the hotel's pool, which was a nice change because it was heated and felt super comfortable.

In addition to the great beach location, it turned out there was an amazing breakfast place called Truckstop just a few doors down from the hotel, within easy walking distance. They made killer rosemary potatoes, waffles, homemade doughnut holes they serve as appetizers, and an amazing muffin with roasted apple slices that tasted great. I highly recommend this place; everything they served for breakfast was delicious and the service was first-rate. They had giant pancakes, french toast, omelettes, eggs benedict and a ton of other selections.

We had such a good time we decided to stay an extra day. The hotel not only gave us a discounted rate but also a $50 gift certificate for our next stay after I told the clerk how much we enjoyed the venue. We came home Monday very happy and relaxed. A most excellent trip. :)
