Apparently, there's an awesome couple that has been living in the apartment across from us forever, and now they're moving out within the week :(
When I got home from work today they were coming out to fix their car. Some asshole keyed it, and also pushed over the motorcycle the next spot or two down. I had met the man before, but only talked for a brief minute then. We ended up talking for a few minutes, mostly about his car. We actually took a look at mine to make sure nothing happened to it. I was fortunate. That's one of the few perks to driving a grandma car :)
We soon parted ways again, and I was looking forward to relaxing after work. 5 or 10 minutes passed until I heard a knock on the door. The man (Phil is his name) invited me over to play Xbox and share his drinks. As this sort of thing doesn't happen to me very often, I stammered my way into what I believe was equivalent to "give me about an hour." Obviously, those weren't the exact words used, but I think Phil got my point.
He also invited my roommate, Toby, over. So, about an hour later, we go over there, expecting nothing. He got out his Xbox games, which weren't really our flavor (mostly shooting games and Madden). Toby and I suggested that we bring over our Wii stuff. He had a Wii, too, but it was packed away and he said he only had a game or two for it.
So, I brought my Wii and hard drive filled with games over, and we proceeded to play lots of games (his wife joined in on all of them) and drink their Jim Beam well into the night. At the end, we all had a good time, and I thanked them for their kindness and hospitality. They said they wanted to invite us over to their new house to do this again. Of course, it wasn't even a question.
This night made me realize how many missed opportunities people have to make new friends. I mean, if I had just been a little more forward, a little more friendly, when talking with Phil that one time a month or two ago, we could have gotten together several times by now.
