The Value Of A Man's Life

The value of a man's life, as long as he's not white?

Never forget the story of Vincent Chin. Vincent Who? Exactly.

And this post here, speaks for itself.

As I said to Box, this is my black ass, exhibiting no surprise.

I kinda wish we were at a point where there would be REASON to be surprised.....*deep sad sigh*

I remember the AP during Katrina (I wrote multiple complaints and never received any acknowledgment BTW). Picture one of a white man with a black trash bag filled with food and so on that he had "salvaged to survive" as he waded in the flood waters while picture two of a black man with a similar black trash bag and a 6-pack of some beverage that he had "looted"!

I always hoped I'd live long enough to see people judged (judged not my first choice of words but for lack of better) on their character and personality not color, religion, sexual orientation and so on......not looking good for my hopes. I divide the world of people into those I like to be around and those I don't and they come in every size, shape, color and other "slots". My life is richer for it.

Sad to say I never heard of the Chin situation. Out here in NM we have few in the Asian community but no doubt they are viewed as "other" too. Redneck thought process just astounds me.

*hugs*

I hate being viewed as 'other' and not American. When are people going to realize Asians( and Latinos) have been here longer than some caucasians?

Exactly! In fact unless a person is full Native American we are all "newcomers" with some more new than others.

I have trouble with the term caucasian for that matter....none of my ancestors came from the Caucasus region! I have Irish, English, Cherokee, German and God only knows what else in my ancestory but none from the area called the caucasus region . Labels are a pain in the butt!

As for "American"....everyone in this hemisphere is American be it north, central, south, etc. but in the USA we claim it as ours exclusively. Crazy!

Allright so...that's a good lesson to not use caucasian because no one person in this world is 'pure' racially. I love it when someone for example is a racist and then you find out they have Native blood in them or whatever, you know?

Oh yeah...my idiot eldest sister (yup, tea partier and racist I am deeply shamed to admit although never raised that way. She's 77 and becoming moreso as she ages!).... We have Native American blood and she even has some of the physical characteristics but thinks nothing wrong when she joined the Moose Lodge years ago and had to claim to be all white or not be allowed to join. Nothing like a side dish of self hate to go with the stupidity and willful ignorance of bigotry!

Just like "Aryan" that is bandied about so often. The Aryan race came from the area of India/Pakistan/Afghanistan and I seriously doubt they were the blonde haired blue eyed versions that skin-heads and Nazi's go on about. Maybe they should tout Vikings LOL.

It is all pure idiocy IMHO. I LOVE diversity. Different cultures, histories, lifestyles and so on but cannot understand shy one would find any superior for any reason. I just enjoy it all and am glad we aren't all from the same cookie cutter.

I remember that. It's not like the black guy was carrying a widescreen TV and a couple of computers. He had food, for God's sake!

Oh yeah! I was furious and shot off at least a dozen angry letters. I never received a single reply. Disgusting.

That doesn't surprise me a bit.

I would be interested to know how much actual looting happened in the wake of Katrina. I bet not a lot; people were more concerned with survival than anything else. Also, not everyone is an asshole who'll take advantage of a horrible situation to get a new television!
