No Longer A Victim

Dear Geek Culture,

You know longer get to cry about being bullied and misunderstood. Especially when you abuse your own horrendously. Wanna know what brought this about? Ask my buddy bitemetechie what happened to her for daring to be a comic book geek who dared pointed out an error a male comic book fan made.

I'll tell you.

She was on a comic book forum and pointed out something that was factually incorrect and got called a cunt by some douchebag asshole. And unfortunately this shit has become the norm. Just a few weeks back a woman got death threats and rape threats after she tried to start a video game Kickstarter. Aisha Tyler got harassed and threatened and trolled by some racist sexist gamers.

Then this shit happened.

I haven't mentioned the homophobia my internet wife afro_dyteencounters on the Once Upon A Time forums.

And speaking of homophobia, be a queer male who speaks out against racism and heterosexism in geek fandom and see how many psychotic white girls flip their shit.

And this is why we still need places like Ars Marginal, FOC_U and other safe spaces. And this is why the next time some white geeks bitch and moan about being so ah-paressed, I'm going Ebenezer Scrooge on their asses as a single fuck will not be given.

And while we're on the subject, once again....

Dear white peepul,

Being a nerd IS NOT the same as being a person of color, an LGBTQ, a person with disabilities, or a member of any other marginalized group. People being mean to you because you dyed your hair green is not the same as the violence that trans people endure. No one is stringing you to a fence and leaving you for dead because you're a Trekkie. You're not being lynched because you collect Lord of the Rings figurines.

I can tell you right now, of all the identities I catch oppressions for, being geek doesn't even rank.

On behalf of marginalized people, please shut the fuck up. Preferably forever.
