In which Neo gets medieval on that ass:

This post was inspired by a recent discussion with my internet wife, afro_dyte.

ars marginal, blackness

I remember when people where so upset they cast Morgan Freeman in Robin Hood. They should have focused their ire on Costner.

LOL. Which is hilarious because there's been precedent throughout the Robin Hood mythos of a Saracen character of some sort being apart of Robin Hood's band.

Is there? (genuine question)

The first I'd heard of it was Morgan Freeman, and I was under the impression of Robin-as-a-returning crusader as only being a century or two old.

Interested now!

Yeah there's been a consistent Saracen character of some sort in many of the Robin Hood series. Even the recent BBC version.

"The problem with identifying race in the ancient world is that the Romans didn't use color terms, per we, but instead used terms we (now) consider ethnic (aethiopian, kushite, nubian, indian, etc.) without always paying much or any regard to where a person was from."

Exactly and even with ethnicity and nationality, it's not hard to get a rough idea of the races of many of the historical people. But yet in media it's constantly whitewashed.

"We also keep lists of African-American Classicists in the classroom. I'll email it to you if you like."

Please do. I'd love to check it out.
