You know, I have a lot of problems with The Lord of the Rings as a series in terms of storytelling (and this includes quite a bit that reflects how much of it Tolkien did as an asspull), but I've never quite understood that whole thing with Martin's series. A society that ran itself like the assclowns in this series run themselves would be a flash in the pan like the Qin Empire in China, which shows up and dies in one lifetime.

This isn't a realistic view even of medieval times, which for all their brutality were less grindingly crapsack than all this was. This......yeah. Thank you for this review. This is one series I'll be skipping.

What I took away from this is that "patronus" really has begun to replace "spirit animal". This pleases me.
