The Real White Scourge

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to ( Read more... )

My favorite is "But I didn't meeeeeeean to be racist/sexist/homophobic/heterocentric..." Well no shit. I have no doubt you didn't wake up that morning and think "Today is a good day to offend someone!" That doesn't mean you weren't and you didn't.

Thank you!

Or my favorite is "I don't mean to sound racist/sexist/homophobic/heterocentric... but..."

As if that's not their first clue to STFU!!!!

I am curious; why do you call it SlutWalk "Fail"?

You are aware that the organizers are addressing the issues raised by Black Women's Blueprint and have and are continuing to meet with them and dialogue with them. I found this very interesting as an individual take on the situation from one of the 40 organizers in SWNYC

huh?

I asked a question and posted a link to something I found during a breezy research on the question. How does that equate to "fucked up"?

I heard about the whole SWNYC thing and read the Open letter from Black Women's Blueprint and Neo's post reminded me that I wasn't aware if SWNYC had addressed or responded whatsoever to the open letter. I thought that was important so I went looking to see what had transpired since then. That essay was one of several things I found and the implication is that the open letter is being addressed. I have no idea whether its being addressed happily on any side so I ASKED.

How is asking akin to fucking up??

When it comes to that repeated pattern of defending the indefensible and that whole clusterfuck of a post linked to, the only thing I can say is that the whole mentality and set of comments seen there is well, indefensible. On all counts. >.<

I had to call out a fellow white, fellow queer person on their FB for some racist shit they spewed the other day. I don't think he 'got it', but at least it hopefully made him think. And I fairly got called out on somoe privilege stuff I did recently.

I do have to agree that it's more like a chronic illness than a vaccine.
