My beautiful and talented sister Ashley is running in the ING New York City marathon with Team For Kids and could use your help.

These programs combat childhood obesity and empower youth development via running and character-building programs in low-income schools and community centers throughout the country, and in South Africa.

I saw it as soon as I clicked on her pic, LOL!

Sometimes it takes a while for us to "see" it. I never thought I looked like my mom, but now whenever I look in the mirror, I see her eyes.

I'm really really wary of the idea that sports are somehow empowering for even non-athletic kids. I'm dyspraxic, with my gross motor skills being the ones primarily affected. That means that my physical skills are impaired to the point where a couple of years ago, an occupational therapist assessed my ability to throw and catch balls as similar to a normal six- or seven-year-old. My ability to hit balls is probably worse. Plus, I'm short and asthmatic and don't have a lot of muscle strength ( ... )

I'm sorry for your situation, but that isn't what this program is about. As stated on the page, it's about helping kids stay healthy and potentially saving lives.
