It was midnight and Cloud couldn't sleep. So he stayed on the couch, staring at the ceiling idly, watching car lights pass over on its expanse. There was  the sound of trains in the distance, a steady and distant roar, and it hypnotized him, softly, into a state of vague disconnect. His royal roommate was out somewhere, nihilisitic and proud, and had spent the evening ordering Cloud to join him.

But he had no desire to. He was busy on the couch in a quiet room, turning over a picture in his head distantly. A place he had seen in a dream -- or maybe not. He couldn't quite remember its origin. But it was there, preoccupying him, his strange place. His sad cliff.

It was a cliff, he was sure of it. A cliff of stone-brown, thrust out into a grey sky. The air had been thick and heavy: smelling as if it had just rained, and he could feel wetness on his face, his hands. And there had been a city, too, small and ominous, looking like a sad child's toy fantasy. And the ground had been hard against his knees and he had been staring and the blood was everywhere, it was everywhere, it was soaking into the scene.

Cloud sighed, he spread a hand against his closed eyes. There was no cliff, there was no city, there was no blood on his hands, and he had work tomorrow. Sleep was necessary and there was no significance in dreaming up non-existent landmarks. So he breathed quietly against the sound of trains and waited to fall out of his own mind's control.
