Once again we have the sky being slurred with a static field. The music comes into play again -- but this time the song lingers until it is fully finished, and even after then (with the creak of a chair that indicates being leans back on) there is still silence, until the tip of a microphone is being obviously toyed with.

"...Truly, is the sweet sound of survival that of which lets our dearest contestants avoid inevitable death?" Not to mention, it is rather clear of the disappointment, and even mild-apathy and boredom in hir voice, "Or perhaps tis the pain that twitches within your mind -- coiling around the pathetic organ of a rotting heart that prevents for open slaughter of one's friends. Hmm, oh! But do not worry! After all, our last day shall not come to a disappointment! It does not matter if the lack of deaths and corpses will continue throughout; a flourish of blood will burst such sweetness that is your necks if this mission cannot be accomplished! Such a shame that would be, hm ( ... )

The Elementary School bezejmenny August 31 2009, 21:42:23 UTC
Built in 1953, this primary school stands adjacent to the high school in which our heroes awaken. Although three stories high, both stairwells have collapsed, leaving access to the upper floors impossible. However, the rubble provides enough of a slope to safely enter the basement, which contains the cafeteria and an unlocked bomb shelter.

Shikamaru didn't actually fall asleep until some time after Hidan and Kazama had returned. They were heavily wounded from their fight but their prize was an uzi, so after all their injuries were bandaged, it finally felt safe enough for Shikamaru to allow himself to rest. He stayed close to Yosuke the entire "night", under the desks where they wouldn't be immediately visible to someone entering the room. The sleep wasn't good, but he was out for several hours.

The Hatter's taunts shook him awake. Sie had nothing useful to say. When the names of the dead were announced, Shikamaru expected a fresh wave of grief or guilt like he'd experienced the previous day, but he wasn't stirred at all.

Why should you feel anything? he asked himself. Everybody dies eventually. You've even died. Because you did the same thing you're doing now. You always give up before the end. Telling yourself you're not worth the trouble, or someone else is more important. Lowering yourself to the level of all those losers ( ... )

Yosuke was having just a little bit more trouble with his fever -- thanks to the presence of the fog and limited medical supplies. His breathing felt like it had become even more difficult, but to bring it up at this point; it seemed like it would just bring unnecessary worry. He listened to the names that were listed by the Hatter and felt a little sick about hearing Edge's name be read off. His head remained pressed against his arms, sighing. He wondered if he could pretend to be asleep and that this was all a bad dream. But today was the final day, wasn't it? That meant that everyone would be trying to survive.

Kazama-senpai, Shika ... With the newly acquired uzi, their group was the most likely to win. No, not one of the group. One of the people in the group. Maybe it was his fever talking, but he didn't want anyone in their group to win. He didn't want that sort of burden to be put on them. That feeling that he could now see on his senpai. He opened his eyes -- annoyed that his vision had gotten just a little blurry; tears or ( ... )

Ah, his vision was starting to go wrong about the edges. And while Kazama knew that he should probably be more concerned about it -- a marksman was nothing without his vision -- he was finding it difficult to care about anything much any more at present time. The bandages wound about his head had adequately stopped the bleeding from his shot-off ear and the deep lacerations the grazed bullets had carved into his flesh. The myriad of different little pains making friends with all the other pains in his limbs, his head -- that, combined with the fact that this was his third day without sleep, it was starting to wear him down ( ... )

The Playground bezejmenny August 31 2009, 21:43:03 UTC
The playground between the schools has been reclaimed by the wild, with trees and bushes providing good cover. A domed jungle jim stands in the center, surrounded by a maze of slides and tunnel tubes. Only chains hang on the swingset, missing their seats.

The Church bezejmenny August 31 2009, 21:44:05 UTC
The ceiling of this century-old cathedral has collapsed but the belltower still stands, offering a 360-degree view of the building below and the neighboring cemetery. Several mausoleums offer shelter between the gravestones.

It seemed a fitting end to Xanxus; if he was going to die, no better place than a church, was there? Not that he had stepped into one since he was a kid, ever since his last little hurrah with his dear father, but he had certainly grown up being forced to go to church every Sunday. Repent, and the Lord shall forgive; wasn't that what he was taught ( ... )
