Honestly. William felt a headache starting and so, two fingers came up to massage his temples like that would do anything to help him. He had been given news that he would have to find a replacement for his subordinate as well as carry out the duties of training for the new recruit that he “felt” he had to join in the Ministry. If the boy could truly see deaths of residents supposed to be picked up; that would be a better substitute than relying on the citizens of NeoGenesis to actually alert the proper authorities about said death. Which was why when he finally decided to hire Minato it was mostly out of the desire to make up for the blank books ( ... )

Needless to say, Williams reaction to his mere presence was not the most comforting thing on the face of the earth-a horrified expression, mouth wide open in disbelief, it looked really strange on the man-and Minato was instantly concerned that he had done something terribly wrong, but had absolutely no idea of what he could have done wrong in such a short amount of time. He didn’t think he was late-infact, he was quite certain that he was at least a little bit early-but the man in the suit had gotten there before him, so maybe he had gotten the times wrong. (he hadn’t even noticed he was there at first, how bad was that? It wasn’t a very good first impression, Minato thought, he probably seemed like an oblivious teenager that wouldn’t be of any help. He hoped that wasn’t the case ( ... )

"Excuse me?" William shared Minato's confusion as he did finally straighten his posture. He noted that for whatever reason it seemed to make his superior uncomfortable. A rare look of bewilderment came on his face and stayed rather than brushed aside like he would normally do. It would make him seem weak, or perhaps, incompetent, but he could not pretend that he understood the situation when he obviously did not. To make a bigger fool out of himself from not recognizing his superior when he first appeared on the Network. Was this some elaborate hoax? It seemed far too much. "Superior, I am afraid I do not understand what you are getting at ( ... )

“...I’m sorry.” Minato finally said, after a few moments pause, the faintest hints of confusion still lingering on his usually expressionless face. “We’ve never met.” It almost-almost-sounded more like an admittance rather than a statement of fact. As though he were worried that speaking the truth on the matter would be a bad thing as opposed to a good one. Perhaps Minato simply looked like someone he had known? After all, it wasn’t so uncommon to get people confused, was it? ...though by the way he was speaking, that didn’t seem to be the case at all. (how could the man already be calling him superior? Minato had expected to be taking orders from him for the rest of his life. Or at least, until he stopped being useful ( ... )

His hand came up to adjust his glasses -- feeling a rare emotion of awkwardness. He was unsure how he was supposed to respond to his superior apologizing to him. Even if the reason for doing so was to state that they have never met. William could not blame him for not remembering who he was. It was not as though he was a particular powerful or high-ranking shinigami. This he blamed mostly on his subordinates who he could not keep in line. Their failures to comply with orders and regulation showed his inability of control. Naturally, it would be foolish to promote anyone under such circumstances. With all this in mind, he did not feel any harm come to his pride over what was said.

"I suspect not." Another adjustment of his glasses. "Would it be acceptable for me to sit?" His tone the same cold formality that it always had, but there was a hint of something behind the words that he normally did not put -- humility.
