Seras was hungry.
No not just hungry, starving in fact. Vargret had been gone some time now, and with him went Seras' regular meals, the blood he gave her to stop her needing to prey on the living. It left her in something of a conundrum, her body demanding the blood, every day the urge growing stronger until she found herself staring after anyone who came in with so much as a scratch. It was becoming unbearable, but what could she do? Strength of will and a promise to Vargret had kept her from hurting anyone so far, but if this carried on...
And who could she turn to? No one else knew, her Master was gone and if she had asked him he would have only laughed at her anyway, encouraged her to go out and kill. Yaha was out of the question, she'd have to be blind not to have noticed his loathing of her, something she reciprocated as well. Even if he was the new Chief she didn't trust him to help her without some kind of price being extracted.
Walking slowly, she trudged with a zombie-like gait into the station's break room, empty except for... her eyes lit up slightly and then she recoiled. Shikamaru, Varget's son. A nice kid, like his dad. Drawing herself up she put her usual friendly grin on, no she couldn't do anything, not when he was still smarting over his loss. It was doubtful Vargret had ever said anything to him anyone.
"Good afternoon, Shikamaru."
