Of course he didn't expect droves of them. They wouldn't have even been prepared if droves showed up. The building was spacious, luxurious, and it could only stay that way if they were housing but a few handfuls. Only a few real mutants arrived every day. The rest were just street scum looking for a bed, and the staff regretfully turned them away. The government hadn't invested this much on any old homeless shelter.
Johan's limousine arrived at the entrance of the renovated Victorian mansion. A pair of security guards rushed to meet him and he smiled at them before proceeding through the thick oak doors. The furnishings inside had a rosy hue to them, warm just like he'd recommended. The lobby, which had once been a grand parlor, contained several velvety couches, sidetables with trays of snacks upon them, and a fireplace which was currently burning brightly to battle the harsh chill of the wintry Abyss outside.
The check-in counter was really just an old antique desk, behind which sat a lovely young nurse in casual wear. Johan stopped to chat with her and she answered giggly and flustered when he asked about her day. Finally he shooed the guards away, took a seat upon one of the couches, and enjoyed a cup of tea while waiting for arrivals.
