Duo paced. He'd been pacing the entire time since he'd arrived. The nurse said he had to wait before he could go in and see Quatre because he wasn't an actual relative. So, he was in the waiting room... pacing... and texting with Sora about Selphie... and then about Quatre because Sora saw the news report... and...

Well, he was jumpy, to say the least. It was that feeling again. He felt helpless, and Quatre was in danger for some reason, and he didn't like it. This was bothering him a lot. He didn't understand it any more than he did last time, and he had a feeling the psychiatrist Dr. Sohma had wanted him to see was going to want to hear about it.

Duo rubbed his forehead roughly.

Why did the feeling between consciousness and unconsciousness feel so familiar? Quatre groaned and opened his eyes. He winced at the sudden brightness. The CEO looked around. The hospital...? Why was he here? It came back to him in a flash. The car accident.

"Duo?" he asked the empty room. There was no answer, not like he really expected one. With a groan, Quatre forced himself to sit up. He let out a low cry at the pain that throbbed.

"Mr. Maxwell?"

Duo spun around and faced the nurse.

She smiled at him. "You can come in and see him now."

Duo nodded and followed her down the corridor, through the 'authorized' doors, and towards where they had Quatre. Duo looked around, impressed at how much fancier this place was than the clinic building down in Terra. He bit his tongue though, keeping his thoughts to himself as they reached Quatre's door.

"Don't get him excited," the nurse warned, waiting at the door for Duo to walk in.

Quatre looked up as the door opened. He was breathing heavily, half sitting up, half lying down. The blonde winced as he moved in a way that his injured body didn't agree with.

"Mr. Winner, please... lay back," the nurse said right away, having followed Duo in. She went to settle Quatre back down.

Duo, on the other hand, had frozen at the door.

"No..." He protested weakly. Quatre looked past the nurse and his eyes widened. "Duo!"

"Mr. Winner, don't fight with me," the nurse said sternly. "I will put you under sedation."

Duo couldn't move. His hand tightly gripped the door handle as he stared at Quatre.

Quatre sighed and then lay back down. "Duo, come here?" he asked ignoring anything else the nurse had to say.

The brunette stepped back, the door bumping the wall behind him with his movement. Suddenly, he felt like he couldn't breathe. Why was this so weird for him? He swallowed the dry lump in his throat and went to say something, but his head started to hurt... badly. It was like that day at the park all over again. Flashes of images, faint, things he recognized from his nightmares, but nothing he could catch and hold onto, flashed through his mind as his knees buckled suddenly.

The nurse hadn't expected that. She grabbed Duo before he hit the floor and sat him in the chair. "Mr. Maxwell..." She quickly checked his vitals. "He's having a panic attack!"

"Duo!" Quatre cried as he shot up in the bed, ignoring his pain. What he wasn't expecting was that eruption of pain in his chest. He cried out and doubled over, hands clutching at the area above his heart. "Duo..." the blonde whimpered.

It wasn't long at that point before someone else came in and someone after that. Soon, the two boys were surrounded by people working to get them both calmed down.

At first, Duo fought off their efforts, frustrated and scared by what was going on. He argued, flailed, and struggled against them. When one of the nurses stated they were going to take him out, he protested loudly and almost violently.

Quatre didn't fight them. He let the doctors and nurses do their job. It helped that he was still medicated slightly.

"I'm fine! I'm fine!" Of course, Duo was practically standing on the chair, almost perched on the back of it against the wall. "Just leave me alone!"

"Leave him be." Quatre said sternly, "He's okay."

He wasn't trying to physically attack anyone anymore, so the nurses finally backed off. "So much for not getting anyone excited," the first one that had brought Duo in muttered to herself. After making sure everyone was calm, the last nurse finally left, leaving the two boys alone.

Duo watched the door for a moment before finally sliding back down in the chair so he was sitting normally.

Quatre sat up again, taking deep breaths. He then motioned for Duo to come over.

The brunette stood up slowly. Self-consciously holding one arm across himself to grip the other, he approached Quatre's bed hesitantly.

He raised one hand out to Duo, eyes almost pleading.

Duo looked down. "Sorry..." he said quietly.

The blonde dropped his hand, looking disappointed. "For what?"

"For..." He hesitated, not looking up. "For everything," he finally said.

"It's not your fault..."

"But... I called you..." he said, "...and just now... with the..."

"It's okay." He once again reached out to Duo, a smile on his lips.

Duo bit his lip, looking nervous, but he moved over next to the bed.

Quatre let his hand fall, pleased.

He rubbed the back of his head, self-conscious. "Are you okay?" he finally asked. His own head was still hurting from the whole thing, but all the weird images were gone... like they'd never been there.

"I guess. More worried about my car."

Duo stared at him for a second. "Your car?" he asked. "Quatre..." He sighed. "I can fix the stupid car..."

"I was trying to get you to laugh. The press is going to have a field day with this if they haven't already."

Duo cringed a bit and nodded. "Sora saw an article while I was in the waiting room."

"Oh god."

"I can go find it... I doubt they could say much yet on it." He shoved his hands in his pockets.

He looked at Duo.

"If you want..." He shrugged.

"Don't leave me right now?" he asked timidly.

Duo sighed a bit and the nodded. "Okay..." Seeing Quatre beat up bothered him though... bothered him deeply, and he didn't know why. He looked down, fidgeting slightly.

Quatre reached out to Duo, worried about his best friend.

For a moment, Duo was almost afraid to take Quatre's hand, but he did. Carefully at first, but then he clutched it tightly in his own. He felt his throat tighten slightly and, he let go only long enough to lean over and hug the blond with a loud sniffle.

He hugged Duo back. "I'm sorry I scared you so..."

Duo muttered a few unintelligible words in a somewhat hoarse and squeaky voice before forcing himself to relax. He shifted, sitting sideways on the bed to make it easier for him to keep the position, and then sighed, sniffing again. "I just... I felt like I couldn't do anything," he said. "And that... that I might lose you... and... just... I was helpless to stop it..."

The blonde kept holding onto Duo, afraid to let him go. "You... You'd never lose me, ever. I'm stubborn and I won't die that easily."

Duo just nodded, clinging to him.

He sniffed.

"Are you hurt bad?" Duo asked, picking his head up finally.

"Bruised ribs, broken wrist... Minor cuts and bruises."

Duo nodded. "I'm not hurting you laying like this?" he asked.

"No."

He nodded and put his head back down, still being careful anyway. He sighed softly. "When are they gonna come kick me out...?" he asked. Most places has designated visiting hours, right?

"When I ask them to." Quatre replied.

"Really?"

He nodded.

"Wow..."

Quatre just clung to Duo.

Duo fingered the hospital gown lightly in an effort to expel some of his nervous energy. "I guess I should apologize to the nursing staff... I dunno if I hurt anyone..."

"Give them a bit to calm down... They're rather protective of their patients."

"I know..." he said. "And I know they were just tryin' to help..." He sniffed. "I dunno what happened."

"Panic attack?"

"Is that what they said?" he asked. "Honestly? Things are kinda fuzzy already... like..." He wasn't sure how to describe it.

Quatre nodded. "That's what they called it."

"Maybe..." Duo said. He shrugged slightly. "I know I saw stuff... like from those weird dreams I can't remember... but..." He sighed. "I guess it doesn't really matter. As long as I didn't hurt anyone..."

The blonde sighed and looked at Duo.

He gave Quatre a weak smile.

"It's okay Duo..."

He nodded. "Just can't help but feel bad, is all."

"I know Duo, I know..."

He put his head back down with a heavy sigh. He still had a nasty headache after the whole thing, too.

Quatre reached out, stroking Duo's hair.

"Mm..." The brunette closed his eyes, Quatre's hand relaxing him with it's touch.

He smiled and continued.

"You're gonna make me fall asleep," Duo muttered.

"So?"

"So... I can't stay here..." he said. "They don't let people do that."

"Yes you can... It's okay."

"They don't let people do that at the clinic in Terra," Duo said.

"Terra is different than Elysium..."

"Mm..." Duo sighed a bit. "I had to stay by myself when I broke a couple ribs in a fight at school two years ago... hated every minute of it."

"I'm sorry..."

"Not your fault."

Quatre nodded.

Duo sat up suddenly, shifting his position a bit. "It was here," he said, rubbing over his side. "You can sorta feel it still. Feels different than the other side."

He moved, placing a hand on Duo's side.

"I got like a bump on a couple of 'em," Duo said, showing Quatre where to put his hand. "It was stupid fight, too..." he said a bit sheepishly, almost blushing.

He moved his hand, frowning. "What was it about?"

Duo shrugged. "Someone was makin' fun of me," he said. "I'd actually done pretty well. The last fight before that had been when I was like eight years old... and I put the other kid in the hospital instead. But..." He shrugged, relaxing again, but still sitting up. "Guess I was outta practice... he got a good hit on me. Well, it was a kick, but still." Duo rubbed the back of his head. "I still did a number on him, too... we both ended up in the hospital for a few days."

Quatre just chuckled.

Duo smiled at the blond.

He smiled back.

"Course... I got kicked off the basketball team for that one," Duo said quietly. "I didn't try out the next year, either..."

"You like basketball?"

Duo nodded.

"Can you teach me to play once I've healed?"

He smiled. "Sure," he said. "I've been debating if I wanna try out again... tryouts are next week... and I am a senior..."

"Try out Duo..." Quatre urged.

He looked at the other teenager. "I dunno if they'll take me back..."

"You never know until you try!"

He laughed a bit. "Yeah... true."

"So do it!"

"Okay! Okay!" Duo said. "I will... but only 'cuz you want me to."

Quatre grinned.

Duo chuckled.

He beamed at Duo.

"You want me to stay the night?" Duo offered then. It was starting to get late.

"I would like that."

"Okay," he said. "But, you still need to get rest."

"I will."

He nodded. "Good." He smirked a bit. "Yanno, 'cuz I might hafta to tell on you to one of those nurses with the sedative..."

"Hey! That's not nice!"

Duo laughed.

Quatre pouted and then yawned.

The brunette laid back down, settling himself around his friend so he was supporting him this time. "Get some rest."

Quatre settled against Duo, closing his eyes. "You too."

He nodded. "I will..." It was then that the nurse from the duty station stuck her head in. Duo gave her a soft smile to let her know they were okay, mouthing a silent 'sorry' in her direction for earlier. She nodded at him, giving him a small smile in return and closed the door over behind her, leaving the two of them rest.
