Weeeell, a little change never hurts things does it? Right now, I am typing this on my good ol' Compaq XP box, which is oddly enough, sitting out in the living room where my parent's HP computer used to be. You see, due to massive system failure, which can be attributed to the shitty nature of Windows ME, the total crapping out of Norton Internet Security about a month ago, coupled with the removal of over 350 registry entries for malware (thank you, Ad-Aware...) combined to make the computer a worthy candidate for nuking. Soo, I am going to end up spending my Friday off wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows and all the vital software... It's gonna be one HUGE pain in the ass, as usual :P
Anyway, I should have my Compaq back in my bedroom where it belongs by the end of Friday... Sad thing is, I'd REALLY like to have this computer connected to the internet, as it is THE SHIT! I mean, this thing can take FULL ADVANTAGE of our cable modem! Pages load faster, and streaming video runs smoooooth! Too bad that I couldn't sell my mom on letting me set up a wireless LAN with 802.11g, even if I bought all the hardware. Sometimes, like in this case, she can be a total facist :(
As for my job, today was quite fun, as I was basically paid for doing nothing! What had happened, around 3:00 EST, after I had been at work for about 2 hours, we suffered a catastrophic system failure, as we lost total contact with our servers, and therefore could not take many calls (company policy is to take "warm" calls, which is to advise the customer that we cannot at that time set up any accounts or services, or access any existing accounts, so all we can do is answer general questions and maybe call them back later). Eventually after 4:00 pm the management decided to send the day crew home, and to only keep a skeleton crew from the night shift on the phones, and the rest were basically told to sit down and chill, myself included :)
GAWD, I am SO GLAD I am not in the IT Department right now, as they CANNOT GO HOME until the problem is fixed! Not only that, but I also found out today that they are on call 24/7 AND have to have reliable transportation, ON TOP of being a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (which is more than $200), and possibly A+ and others... All of which, I do not have, and may not have in the near future! :P So, in other words, it's not the end-all be-all job that I thought it was! :P
Anywho, that's about it for today. Until next time, ja ne!
