MY first day at Ozine Fest 2009 (April 3) began with an hour-long wait for public transport to take me to SM Megamall, and another hour getting there--no thanks to Friday rush-hour traffic. I expected a rather long line as soon as I arrived. Thankfully though, the lines are not on the "Comiket-level."
Anyway, things are gonna be a bit pic-heavy from here, with running commentary on my end...
Street Fighter 4: A "delicious" look at a new game from a franchise that just won't die. Actually, I was expecting to play Ace Combat 6 with custom Idolm@ster planes. Hope I can do so tomorrow?
Signs for some of the event's interactive areas. Since I'm a straight guy, the choice was obvious (the maid cafe). They seemed to be biased toward groups, though, but the Maid Cafe is still a nice place...
The stage where bands, karaoke contestants and cosplayers perform.
This is not a Gundam (SEED DESTINY tarpaulin)
THIS is a Gundam--a.k.a.: Gundam 00's Setsuna F. Seiei...PLDT's myDSL thinks so too! (Psych!)
(Note: Previous two images and captions are my take on Setsuna's "Ore wa Gundamu da!" [I am Gundam] line.)
"You are my instigator... You are my aggravator... You are my space invader... Cautionary warning I propose..."
I wish there's a Pinoy anime rock band that can play John Sykes' "Cautionary Warning"... That would rock lots.
Now if only Shana-tan had a pull string that makes her say, "Uruchai! Uruchai! Uruchai!" (Chut up! Chut up! Chut up!)
Sadly, this pic is the only one of two good shots I had of the Dynames cosplayer. But before taking this pic, I also saw who I thought was "Patrick Colasour" (off-camera) pass by...
What? No Gundam Exia mask?
"Katrina" as Ranka Lee (Macross Frontier) singing her rendition of Lynn Minmay's "My Boyfriend's a Pilot."
The crowd gathered near the stage... Whew! It's one big furball!
Local anime band Identity Crisis (correct me if I'm wrong with the name)
A backstage view of the cosplayers preparing to go onstage. Around this time I also won a copy of issue 18 of Otakuzine (featuring Shakugan no Shana as the cover story) as well as a couple of posters (Bleach and Prince of Tennis) that I gave away to a couple of people beside me since I don't watch Bleach and Prince of Tennis anyway.
Dragonball: A good example of an anime franchise that won't go down. (Dunno if the live-action movie will sink it, though...)
Some sci-fi characters:
Not a Necron... But those previous two cosplayers are actually kids! Wow.
Not the Juggernaut...(b***h!)
If you see a Predator pressing his arm console, mass destruction is sure to follow...
And we have Gundam characters!
"Lockon Stratos, headshot on enemy mobile suit confirmed. I can dance all day, try to hit me!"
He's not Patrick as I previously thought... Actually, the guy's cosplaying Bring Stability. The one who gets (SPOILER!)owned by Tieria's Seraphim Gundam.
"The Dark Side is strong with this one..."
Cosplayers dressed up as the girls from Special A (a rom-com anime I should try to watch already...) From left: Hikari Hanazono, Megumi Yamamoto and Akira Toudou.
Cosplayers as Anya Alstreim from Code Geass (left) and Megurine Luka from the Vocaloid Character Vocal Series.
Anyway, those are most of the better pics I snapped during the event. I'm still not getting the hang of the digital camera I use, so pardon the blurs and stuff. (Not easy since my camera only has "digital zoom" as opposed to "optical zoom.")
Stuff done during the event:
- Checked out the Maid Cafe (pic/s coming soon)
- Made a custom Haruka Amami T-shirt (with her custom F-22 pic in front, "Dark Haruka" at back). Will wear this on Day Two.
Stuff I'm hoping to see (and do) tomorrow:
- see Idolm@ster cosplayers dancing to "Go My Way!"
- see Rosario + Vampire group cosplayers
- see Gundam 00 group cosplayers
- Play Ace Combat 6's Idolm@ster aircraft (Haruka Amami F-22 or Miki Hoshii Su-47).
- Make a custom Yellow Squadron shirt.
Up next (I think) Ozine Fest 2009 Day Two...
P.S.: If anyone wishes to clear some details, please tell me on the comments. (And please do so in a civilized manner.) My apologies as well for the stolen shots...
