An entry I wrote but never posted about my first weekend back in Worcester...
"6/17/2011
I was just sitting out on my new porch, at my new apartment in Worcester, and I was suddenly overwhelmed with how amazing it felt to be back.
Yesterday, my mom and dad and I woke up early, packed the car with most of my belongings, and drove up here to move me in. When we first pulled up, I saw Colleen on Charlotte Street--our street--and Amy came to let us in. We brought the plants upstairs from the car, and I set them down in my new room (which is actually still kind of half-filled with Lauren Onifer’s crap).
Colleen came to Annie’s with my parents and me, then went back to work and my parents went home. After that, Amy and I spent awhile lazing around, we went food shopping, then Lauren came over for a while and hung out. She told us about this free dinner at Moynihan’s, so at 6:30 we met her and Sally there and ate awesome food for free! I never really enjoyed Sally, but Lauren has actually been really nice to hang out with since I’ve been back. She is funny and I feel like she acts like a big tough guy, but you just have to keep her in check. I think a lot of people (Colleen) are afraid to do that, but I am really not. So whatever, we get along fine.
Anyway, after Moynihan’s, we went to Duck Yao’s for karaoke night! Hilarious! I walked in and it was a really small place, but everyone seemed really nice and were good singers and it was fun. And, of course, Joe Boudreau was there. Still kind of in love with him. We stayed for probably an hour or two there, then Colleen dragged me to this other apartment where people were hanging out. We left with Joe, his roommate whose name I can’t remember, and Tom Hamill. They are all cuties and Joe was asking me all this shit about Africa, and they all seemed genuinely interested to hear the answers, which was nice. I try to be in tune with that because I don’t want to be “that Africa girl” who won’t shut up about freaking Africa. Anyway, Colleen and I went to this other place, and it was actually just about 10 close friends getting drunk and watching t.v. so I felt kind of awkward, but Helen Ward was there and she is awesome. She actually was in Namibia last semester so we are African sisters, haha. We only stayed there for about half an hour, then we went to Ben Goldman’s house, two houses down from our apartment! Ben is awesome and such a sweetheart. He seemed really happy to see me, we kept hugging and telling each other how much we love each other, haha. He was there with Eli, who is kind of a d-bag, but we have some kind of understanding with each other…he’s weird. Nico was also there, he is such a hottie and a nice guy. We just sat around and talked and eventually Alex Minkoff came over too--he’s hilarious and also really hot. So, that was fun but then it was like, 1 a.m. and Colleen and I were both wiped so we went home and went to bed.
I guess the main reason that I feel so elated by last night is that it just feels good to hang out with a group--or several groups--of people who are just like me in so many ways. Talking to a group of “Clarkies” even, is so different than talking to a group of Americans, and talking to a group of Americans is definitely REALLY different than talking to a group of Ghanaians. I guess I am just shocked at how easy it is to be here. I haven’t seen these people in months, but I felt calm and at ease and comfortable and sociable. It was awesome!
Now, more than ever, I am so excited for this summer and especially for next school year. I missed this. Ohhh, how I missed this."
