ten things to love on Valentine's Day:

1. Very long, very HOT showers, and pomegranate shampoo.

2. Warm, breezy sunshine that lifts my spirits and is drying up all the MUD!

3. The blue leopard-print polo wraps that Holly loaned me to use on Chase, because you just can't take yourself too seriously riding a horse wearing blue leopard-print athletic socks.

4. Big, thick absorbing books to read.

5. The peppermint latte lotion my friend Katie makes.  (http://www.etsy.com/shop/BeautifulTreeHuggers?ref=seller_info#)

6. Kitty snuggles under warm blankets.  (And oh does it feel good to be warm, after last night's fiasco with the heater... let's just say that what little sleep I did get was punctuated by dreams of snowy wastelands!)

7. Watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on Valentine's Day. It fits, and I notice something new about that movie every time I see it.

8. Exploring on horseback, which is my favorite kind of adventure and the pony's, too.  We had the most lovely, epic trail ride on Saturday in which I learned, once again, that my sense of direction is terrible, and we only barely resisted the temptation to take off galloping across eighteen acres of lovely, glistening green-and-gold hayfield.  (The compromise: a very, um, spirited trot, with a few plunging strides of canter and some poor man's half-pass thrown in for good measure.  Also some head-tossing.  Also, some very inelegant airs above ground when it came time to cross the creek.)

10. Small indulgences that go a long way.  This week it's vanilla ice cream.  I'm normally a frugal grocery shopper - I'll be the first to admit that I eat a lot of beans and rice, and spend a lot of time pondering ways to turn Ramen into a nutritious meal.  Apples and peanut butter are snack food, and I almost never eat out.  But I always try to get one truly, wonderfully delicious treat.  A big tub of vanilla soy ice cream lasts over a week, and I can eat it a different way every day: topped with fresh berries, drizzled with maple syrup, sprinkled with cinnamon or cocoa (Ghiradelli's Double Chocolate is the BEST), whipped with peanut butter, etc.  Tonight's triumph: vanilla ice cream with chai spice, served with a slice of still-warm and perfectly moist banana bread straight out of the oven.  Heaven in a bowl!

oh, and a 10.b...

... being single means you don't have to share the ice cream. ;-)

inspiration, you are what you eat, love, life is beautiful, trail rides are good for the soul
