Holidays Are Comin'

Nov 28, 2008 10:57

1) Was 2008 a good year for you? In some ways it’s been one of the most exciting years of my life. In other ways, I’ve hated a lot of it.

2) What was your favorite moment of the year? There’ve been a couple of awesome moments. Keywords: Boyshape, Death Cab for Cutie, Wrath of the Lich King.

3) What was your least favorite moment of the year? Too many to pick just one, really. But to be honest, my birthday could have been better. At least one person knows whereof I speak.
4) Where were you when 2008 began? At Kirsty’s New Year Party, wishing half my friends weren’t at Katie’s party instead.
5) Who were you with? About half my dearest friends and a lot of random people.
6) Where will you be when 2008 ends? In Hackney, at x_wilde_x ’s house. I believe I promised my presence. *squee, seeing x_wilde_x *
7) Who will you be with when 2008 ends? At least one very very awesome friend, hopefully more, some friends of hers I vaguely know and probably a lot of people I don’t.
8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2008?  I can’t even remember what resolutions I made this year. But bearing in mind I don’t think I’ve ever kept a New Year’s Resolution in my life, I would tend to assume that I didn’t.
9) Will you make resolutions this year? Oh, probably. I’ll try to write them down this year.
10) Did you fall in love in 2008? Yes. ^^

11) If yes, with who? Someone I shouldn’t have fallen in love with. *sings* And yet, still a happy non-ending. : ) (*snuggles thedarkenedhalf *)
12) If yes, do they know? I think he may have a suspicion, yes. >.>
13) Are you still in love with them? Undoubtedly.
14) Do you regret it? Never.
15) Did you breakup with anyone in 2008? I guess so. But it wasn’t so much a break-up as a silently acknowledged parting of romantic ways. She’s still one of my very most wonderful friends though. Woot. And, I guess, Tom. Although I'm not sure after one date it really counts as breaking up. >.>
16) Did you make any new friends in 2008? Love to you guys, Games Soc. Oh, and annyihra ! I totally forgot it was only this year that we met! Feels like I’ve known you forever. <3 And all my awesome friends from Geek Camp (JACT and Lampeter - you know who you are.) And llieno !!! Who I cruelly forgot to put on this list as it totally didn't occur to me that I only met her this year - in the last couple of weeks in fact. This seems to be the year of people I feel like I've known all my life in spite of only have just met them.
17) Who is your favorite new friend? Oh no! You’re making me pick?? annyihra . No question. But sovieldazu  and Mike from Lampter are close seconds. I tend to keep thedarkenedhalf  in a different category from friends, but if we're just talking new people I'm close to, he takes the cake. And noms it, probably. ...(This cake is not a lie.)

18) What was your favorite month of 2008? Tough one to call… July maybe?
19) Did you travel outside of the US in 2008? …yes. In fact, at no point during 2008 did I travel inside the U.S.
20) How many different states did you travel to in 2008? As I intimated in the previous answer, exactly zero. But I wanna dive across the pond and go see annyihra  at some point if I’m still welcome. And maybe my favourite of the old!Yunguns too, theb00kworm , in case she doesn’t make it to U of L for her study abroad year.
21) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2008? Thought I was going to, but managed to hang on to her through absolutely no awesomeness of my own. I’ve fallen badly out of touch with a couple of friends. I worry frequently that I’ve lost them.
22) Did you miss anybody in the past year? Same old same-old. Plus annyihra . America is way too far away.
23) What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2008? Prince Caspian. Loved it. Haven’t seen that many good movies this year, though.

24) What was your favorite song from 2008? I’ve been fairly cut off from developments in music this year, to be honest. Guess I’ll go with… Long Division - Death Cab for Cutie
25) What was your favorite record from 2008? Narrow Stairs - Death Cab for Cutie
26) How many concerts did you see in 2008? If you just mean music concerts, two including James Templeman’s in Waterloo.
27) Did you have a favorite concert in 2008? It’s getting repetitive, but… DEATH CAB.
28) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2008? Not compared to a lot of people my age, but more than I’ve ever drunk in my life and more than I ever intend to again.
29) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2008? Only prescription and painkillers. Oh, and caffeine.
30) How many people did you sleep with in 2008? Just the one.
31) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year? Too many to count.
33) What was the worst lie someone told you in 2008? As far as I’m aware, no one’s lied to me particularly.
34) Did you treat somebody badly in 2008? Yeah. Two names in particular spring to mind.
35) Did somebody treat you badly in 2008? I have a tendency to feel ill-used by people, but I’m sure they don’t do it on purpose, and it’s probably just me being selfish anyway.
36) How much money did you spend in 2008? Way too much.

37) What was your proudest moment of 2008? My warm-up gig at the Stage Door in Waterloo. Gods, that really doesn’t feel like it was only this year.
38) What was your most embarrassing moment of 2008? The first time I played at the Stage Door, when I made the mistake of attempting to play James’ twelve string. Went home and cried about that.

39) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2008 and change something, what would it be? I would refuse to be president of the Creative Arts Society instead of letting myself be guilted into it.
40) What are your plans for 2009? Try not to drop out of university, get 1sts in my exams, do some proper writing.

I've been writing an essay! Well... diligently making notes for an essay, anyway. And it's not even due in until the 5th. But my great plan is to finish it this Saturday, then spend early next week freaking out about our first assessed Greek test, which I fully intend to ace, and then work madly on a Helen (Euripides) essay which is due on the 12th. That way, I only have to worry about getting one Greek Drama essay in next term, unless one of these two (or both, perish the though) gets a really awful mark so that I'm honour-bound to redo it.

I got to show off in Greek the other day, it was great.

nengrelim : *translating away* Hey... Lysander, tearing down walls, flutegirls... Lene, is this by any chance book 2 of Xenephon's 'Hellenica'?
Awesome-Professor-Rubinstein: *blinkblink* Yes, it is. ...how did you know that?
nengrelim : 'cause I'm awesome? I wrote an essay about the oligarchic revolutions last year - for you, in fact. This and our set text, Lysias 14, were my main reference sources; I remember chunks of them almost off by heart....

And Social & Economic History of the Roman Empire, SEHRE for short (pronounced like 'Sarah' in my head), actually looks like becoming interesting. Yes, folks, only eight weeks into the course, we have finally stopped having entire two hour lectures on nothing but population sizes that make me want to tear off one of my arms and beat the slideshow bloody with it. Last week we got a lecture on the Black Death - maybe the relevance isn't immediately obvious to all of you... - which was brilliant and had some of the most awesome quotes ever.

"Sheep eat men. Not literally of course, because then they'd have been confusing them with lions. And farming lions is, even in Wales, rather unusual. I grew up in parts of Wales and if they'd been farming lions I'm sure I would have noticed." And other such gems. Thank you, Richard Alston. You made my day.

In fact, I shall have to abandon you now, because I have another of his lectures to get to in about half an hour and other things to accomplish before then.

"Most books will tell you that the world did, in fact, end." One more gem for the road.
