It seems there is a lot more to come out about the scandal of paedophiles being cleared by Ruth Kelly's department to work with children. One was allowed to work in a girls' school because he was believed to be a threat to little boys.

Of course, this government has always seemed somewhat kindly towards paedophiles. Sex with underage children is rarely prosecuted if the child involved is over 12 and even for younger children, the sentence an abuser can expect is at most a few years. Sex criminals can never be assuimed to be cured. They can only be contained. If a man is excited by the thought of children, a few years in prison won't miraculously make him normal. They re-offend, over and over again. There are also, of course, worrying whispers about Dunblane and a government cover-up to protect people in the British and Scottish parliaments.

All in all, this government is at best complaisant and at worst an accessory to child abuse.

If I had a child, I would educate him/her at home. It's bad enough that the schools are rubbish and the curriculum pointless, without having perverts in the classrooms.
