We spent Labor Day weekend on the coast with some of our neighbors. The calm before the storm. September and October are always insane for our family, and the start of a new school year is just the beginning. The first week of school is hell as the kids settle back into the routine. The second week of school we are all sick with whatever back-to-school bug happens to be roaring through the community. My work hours double during the fall and I travel off and on, which means Mark has to reduce his hours to compensate. We need to take the car to DEQ and buy new tires. We need to do a bunch of house shit. Rake all the leaves every weekend. It's a lot, but every year we somehow seem to manage. And Fall in Portland is fucking beautiful.

We've got our calendars synced with work trips, back to school night, the walk-a-jog, the school carnival, staff retreats and conferences for Mark and I, book club, and banjo lessons. I've got an exercise regimen, a therapist, a clean car, and podcasts for days. Lunches are packed, laundry is folded. We are locked, loaded, and ready to make September our bitch.
