Cuz I'm craaaazy

Long time no post! This is a project I've had in progress for about a year now (actual work time: ~4-5 months), but never mentioned to anyone except Kevin and Joel. Today I took some photos to show it elsewhere, so I figured I might as well post 'em up here too.

Cross-stitching has always been a guilty mindless pleasure of mine, but I almost always have something more productive (and creative) to do. Nonetheless, a series of events got my ambition going, which led...

to...

this.

Seems... familiar... o.O

(Yeah, those map division places are gonna be a bit funny. Oh well!)

This is done at 512x512 squares, with 1 square = 8 pixels. (262,144 stitches! YEAH!!) The environment sprites in this game are generally composed from 16x16 blocks, so this is about as "zoomed out" as I can get while keeping all the obsessive essential details.

I've never understood French knots before this project, but now they're fun!

Details:

The temples and structures have a lot of intricate detail in their sprites. Shrinking them down, even with a relatively neat grid, is a challenge.

I never even realized there was an octopus thing there until I got working on this. It indicates/does nothing in the game. :P

So this is gonna be something like 5 years' work, since I can't prioritize it over paintings. But maybe someday, it'll get done!

I've got a couple other Mystery Projects in the works, but I haven't been feeling ready to show them yet. The last couple months have been terrible for accomplishment, but at least I have been getting some work done lately. Look forward to a few more posts before TOO long (fingers crossed)!
