Let's boost our brains!

So "herbal/nutritional suppliments" are a funny thing. For instance, a lot of people want Chinese medicine to provide them with some sort of tea that will turn them into Superman or something. As a rule of thumb, I assume that if you think you are healthy, you don't need medicine. And I know that the free-radical theory of aging has some holes. But I found some neat things to share:

I have been taking "Acetyl L-Carnitine" (500mg 2x daily) and "Alpha Lipoic Acid" (300mg 2x). The first one is advertised for "Cognitive Support" and the other one is for "Cellular Protection". They are both apparently good for mitochondria?
Anyway, since taking them, I've found there actually is a noticable improvement in mental abilities! I do Brain Age for the Nintendo DS every day. I have to admit, "progress" is generally slow and I don't expect to continually get a new record every day. And since taking this stuff, I've found I actually DO get new records. I've shaved around 10 seconds off my best time of "Calculations x100". This is more progress in the past two weeks than I have had in months (where I might be 1 second better than my best after several weeks of training).

So this stuff does seem to make a difference and because of that I thought I should share.

I also take cod liver oil but things like cardiac/joint/mood health are more difficult to really "prove" so I won't recommend it unless you feel like going on a cod-liver adventure.
