GameFAQs Game of the Decade aka LOL ZELDAFAQS

Jan 09, 2011 22:34

Two weeks is enough time to put off posting my score, read a contest retrospective and put it off some more.  I want to just get it out of the way now.

Bracket Score: 296/448
Percentile: 98.4348
Battle Score: 18300

The theme of this contest was 'Game of the Decade' with only games released between 2000 and 2009 being eligible for entry (fun aside: just before the new year my mother asked me if 2011 was the end of the decade.  I said no, assuming you started with 2000 it ended with 2010.  This confusion is apparently very common).  However much it seems like a way to put a fresh angle on the contest I suspect it was done partly to keep Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII out so we didn't have to watch them crushing everything mercilessly for another year.

Personally I continued my grand tradition of predicting the second match wrong and losing my chance to appear on the leaderboard early.  I eventually made it during the finals, when the matches were worth a lot more points and positions could change rapidly, so here I am on the leaderboard on December 20th, during MGS3 v Majora's Mask:

Ironically I lost my position because of the game that went on to win the whole contest thanks to Zelda fans and their ability to shamelessly vote for almost anything Zelda-related regardless of personal feelings.  Lol ZeldaFaqs.

(contest names like Best Game Ever and Game of the Decade definitely shouldn't be taken seriously.  I like to think of the contests as games themselves, popularity polls that are affected by factors like popular perception and fanbase behaviour and regional popularity and that makes them fun to try and predict)
