Smash DS: So obvious

This makes far too much sense when you think about it

Smash Brothers is one of Nintendo's most lucrative franchises, beaten only by Mario and Pokemon.  The DS has a much bigger userbase than the Wii (different places give me different figures but I'll go with Wikipedia here: 70 million DSes vs 25 million Wiis) and Nintendo should look for a reason to employ the series again instead of repeating the too-long six year gap between Melee and Brawl.  It's competition would be games like Bleach DS and Jump Super/Ultimate Stars but they would be weaker or nonexistent outside of Japan while Smash is strong globally, and the existence of those games in the first place suggest this type of fighting game is viable for the DS.

If Nintendo cease-and-desist this I'll take that as a confirmation they're doing Smash DS, like with Squeenix and Chrono Resurrection.  But there's a chance this one-man enthusiast project will burn out by itself, and I'd be shocked if Nintendo wasn't doing Smash DS anyway.  It's easy money.
