Confusing but Delightful Win Fic: Public Service

Oct 31, 2010 23:13

So I, the person who ranted and railed against darkfic and then genre's leanings toward gratuitous violence, out-of-character-ness, and bad emo hair, have somehow taken second place in the Games' darkfic challenge.  Huh.  Don't get me wrong.  I'm thrilled that my head bouncing off walls ended up paying off with a not-so-bad product.  So, yes.  Here ( Read more... )

Not actually certain how to respond to that comment, as I'm not quite certain what you mean. If it's 'oh, no, Lestrade's just stepped in it something fierce', then yes. Yes he has. If you mean something else, then would you care to elucidate so I can respond properly to your comment? Please?

Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry I wasn't being too coherent, what with having just survived an evening of trick-or-treating and all.

Any way, I'm not terribly well-versed in the books, but James M is thought to be Jim M's brother, yes? And even scarier?

More importantly, will there be a sequel? I realize this was a one-shot you wrote for the comm, but I wouldn't complain if you decide to expand on it... It seems a very intriguing beginning to some heavy angst and hurt. Throw Mycroft in there, and we may get some comfort, too.

A girl can dream.

As a HUGE book fan, I don't believe Colonel Moriarty was ever given a first name, although Jim is often the shortened version of James. My reasoning was always that, if Moriarty really was the guy who never got caught, but only had pawns who got caught in his stead, he would never let that advantage slip his hands, particularly in such a risky, uncontrolled venture as that. So Jim, logically, was just another pawn. A stand-in for the puppeteer who is never seen but whose presence is always felt. That seemed so much more frightening and so much more of a challenge for Sherlock and Co ( ... )

Omg. Omg omg omg. Wow. Was NOT expecting that, but oh so perfect! So creepy and so perfect that I've lost all semblance of coherency. OMG.

I reduced you to incoherency? Go me! I was worried that the end would be obvious from the beginning, so I'm glad it took you by surprise.

Win. I think "Jim" in ep. 3 is a setup, too.

Now I want to smoosh Lestrade. Poor guy, trying to do the right thing in a horrible chess game between geniuses . . . :(

That's the best thing about Lestrade: he's terribly, wonderfully normal, an stuck in a world of abnormal people. So he does the best he can, which is rarely good enough, and he just tries to get by. I love him to pieces.
