Introducing an obsession: Asian TV drama

Apr 28, 2009 14:41

Let me introduce my obsession: Asian TV drama. Specifically Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese ones. (And the Taiwanese shows don't get enough love!)

This is mini-reviews of most of the dramas I've watched so far. Please note that I don't necessarily recommend all of these - if you're new to drama, I'd say chose something rated 4/5 or higher.

YAY! Long comment! :D (You'll get an equally long answer, that okay?)

If you ever feel nostalgic I dare you to watch some Taiwanese shows. Some are actually really good, you just have to get used to the lighting/sound being a little bit off sometimes. And people screaming in Chinese... xD

Coffee Prince IS good. I made my sis watch it with me. She loved it too. :D

nodame cantabile is the best j-drama i've ever seen. well written, good storyline, actors are a+.
Totally! I really need to watch it again soon. It's all-around awesomecakes. :D

kurosagi. i just couldn't get into it. i think i got to episode 4 and i couldn't find the other eps, but i didn't mind because it wasn't that good to me. maybe i'll give it another chance since i love yamapi and maki, but idk. :/
*lol* I completely understand! My friend had the eppies on her external harddrive and gave them to me, but if she hadn't, I'm not sure I would have finished it either. I haven't finished the movie yet... I don't really think you're missing out. It's mostly people being Yamapi crazy. :P

maou was just...no. not good.
thank you!

mei-chan wasn't that great either, but i watched every ep and loved it because of my hiro mizushima bias.
I adore Mizushima Hiro too, and I did watch every episode of Mei, but I had to admit somewhere half-way in that it really wasn't his best performance. In Absolute Boyfriend his acting was a lot better, imo. But that show had it's problems too.

"does that boy comb his hair?! o_O" LOL.
Obviosuly, Hiro's to cool to comb his hair. :P

You know, I felt kind of negative typing out all those review because I have watched a lot of shows that I think aren't that good (Maou, Kurosagi etc) but I still see them recced everywhere and it felt good to actually be able to point about what I didn't like about them.

You seem to have watched a lot of jdramas, any recs for me?

yay~ equally long comments make me happy.

LOL yeah! now i remember the lighting/sound being off in the taiwanese dramas! i remember my grandma would be like "what is what all the screaming?!" oh...she's watching that show again" XD

haha definitely; the yamapi fangirls are fueling all the kurosagi love.

yes, hiro's acting was often...awkward/painful to watch in mei-chan. it was kinda surprising to me. i don't know if it was because he was supposed to be a butler than did everything automatically, or if his acting skills were lacking this time around. i agree - he was much better in absolute boyfriend.

ah, don't worry! but i bet it's nice to see people who agree with your negative reviews so you don't feel alone in the sea of recommendations haha.

i really love hana yori dango too. i can't rewatch it though. too many episodes. D:
the ending in the movie was cheesy, but i still squeeled like a silly fangirl LOL. the soundtracks are ♥

j-drama recs: kamisama, mou sukoshi dake (made me cry like a baby); pride; nobuta wo produce (although i see that's on your list to view :]) ryuusei no kizuna (SO good), golden bowl, gokusen, the queen's classroom, one pound gospel, sapuri, arifureta kiseki (haven't finished, but i liked it a lot), love shuffle (i lovelovelove this one. tamaki hiroshi is in this).

phew. i think maybe i should do a j-drama review post! :P
i feel like i used the word love too much in this comment. *looks in a thesaurus*

LOL, yeah, Taiwanese shows are something else. I understand why some people don't like them, but there's just soo much awesomeness hiding in all that loud crack. :D

Hiro's acting was def akward. don't know if it was because he was supposed to be a butler I thought of that too, but you know, it still didn't work. xD

Haha, it IS kind of nice when other people agree, yeah.

the ending in the movie was cheesy, but i still squeeled like a silly fangirl LOL.LOL I knoooow. xD I'm very okay with them getting married, I just thought it was a little over-the-top...

*opens up dramawiki to check out your recs* I've never heard of kamisama! That sounds interesting! What else? Pride is totally a show I've been planning on watching! And Love Shuffle! Everyone's been raving about it, it feels like, I definitely need to see it. I had planned for it to finish airing before I watch but I realize now it laready has. Wow, times flies by. xD

Thanks so much for the recs! :D (Do a review post, yesssss! :D)

Love is very good word *nod*

well it's good you waited to watch love shuffle because it was taking FOREVER for each episode to be subbed. the person who did it had at least a month gap between the first and second episodes. x_x but it's definitely good. :D

i'll do the review post in a couple weeks! :]
gotta get finals over with...and fix my english paper. *cries*

Really? That sucks! (I know, I should be grateful to the subbers, which I am, promise, but I'm also a very impatient drama geek. omo!)

finals. right. need to do those, yes. >_
