On July 20th, my long nightmare will be over. When I receive my paycheck on that day, I will be able to pay off my last student loan, leaving only my car to be paid off. I would dance, if I didn't think I'd hurt myself.

Yay! It's too bad that you consider it to be a nightmare - time to work on getting a job that's not!

I decided that when I've paid off my debt (a little under $8000 in car loan and credit card), I'll take a day off - it'll be time to celebrate! Well, my student loans don't count because they're deferred for now.

Do you want to sub at my school? No degree required - we even have high school student subs.

It's not the job that's the nightmare, it's the whole "having 10k in debt hanging over my head" that was the nightmare. The job ends in September. I still have to work on the car loan, but everything else is good.

I dunno about being a sub. We'll have to see.

I'm glad your job is not a nightmare. I have about $7-8K in debt, not including loans, plus I also have car insurance, health insurance, rent, etc. It'll be nice to have the car paid off one day soon. How much is left on your car to pay off?

$5,273.71 left to pay on the car. I still have car insurance, about $670/year and cell phone $40/month. I don't carry a balance on my credit card, so that's not an issue. The only thing I'm missing is having health insurance, but you need a steady job for that.

Yay for paying off the student loans! I might be on the way to getting a job...but as a secretary...not really very chemistry related, but you know, whatever. Money is good. And so are benefits (I don't have health insurance either).

I'd love to work as a secretary. Think you can get me a job too? :D

Why would you love secretarial work?

Look at UNC, Duke, law offices, doctor's offices, real estate offices, etc.

Because it can't be worse than working retail?

Besides, I think I'd look good in high-heels, even if I couldn't walk in them.

I have $5620ish left on my car (wanna race to pay off our cars?). I used to not carrya CC balance and want to get back there - a few big things (such as plane tickets) and paying more on the car than on the CCs has brought the total up - but I now have that down to about $1600, which really isn't bad. My cell phone is roughly the same amount. My car insurance is $87.50/month, I think. My health insurance is through BCBS - not at all through my employer - and is $138/month. You really should get health insurance. It can be pretty useful.

You also don't pay rent or utilities. :)

If I had a job, I would be paying rent and utilities (I did kinda pay utilities, but not rent, while I was home). And I still can't afford health insurance until I have a job. Sad, but true.

You have a job right now.

A job that ends in September. And unless unemployment pays a lot more than I think it does, I wouldn't be able to keep my health insurance unless I get a real job when I come back, or have another cruiseline job lined up.
