I was feeling pretty sick last night so I went to bed at like 8:30, but then I was itchy and alternately burning hot and freezing all night, so I got hardly any sleep. I didn't go to school, and slept until like 11, and I'm feeling better now except I've got such a bad headache. It's really nice outside though. I've realized that I don't actually have anything to say. Man. Maybe I'm not motivated enough to even keep a livejournal. We shall see. Peace out. (haha, i said peace out)

So I noticed that today was "Eight Hours Day" in Australia. So I looked it up.

In 1856 a group of workers, mostly stonemasons and other skilled building workers, won an eight-hour working day from their employers. Soon after, it became a widespread principle for building workers to work an eight-hour day without a reduction in their pay. It was widely celebrated as a world first and Australia became known as a 'workingman's paradise'.

By the 1880s, thousands of people turned out for the marches that commemorated the winning of the Eight-hour Day. Trades were represented with elaborate banners, floats and costumes - like the eight-hours armour made by the Tinsmiths Union to symbolise industrial strength and protection.

However, only a minority of workers initially won the Eight-hour Day. Chinese and Aboriginal workers, women and children generally worked longer hours for less pay.
