Taking Fire

I meant to post this to LJ earlier, but never got around to it. Here ya go. (TL;DR: Gunfight outside, my apartment got shot, it's scary.)

Tonight, around 8:00 or so in the evening, I was at home laying in bed. I was on the phone, relaxing a bit, when I heard the sound of gunfire coming from outside of the apartment. I was in the bedroom, which sits on the east side of the building. The gunshots were coming from the east, across the street within the apartment complex.

I roll off of the bed and drop to the floor. Just as I do this, one of the shots makes a connection with my building. It’s one of the last ones in the exchange, so I quickly grab my pistol, conveniently right under my bed, while calling 911. I slid the pistol under my belt, covered it with a shirt, and cautiously stepped from my apartment.

I knew exactly the apartment this must have come from, as it is constantly full of thug-acting assholes. Loud music, yelling, whatever, at all hours. I had complained to the office about these people, and they never really cared.

As I came from the breezeway of my building, I heard the yelling. Thugs yelling about “nigga” this and “nigga” that. Each one accusing the other of firing shots. There was no resolution here.

While standing outside of my building, I thought I’d take a look to see where the building was hit. Then I saw it. the bullet hole in the building was in the area around my bedroom. I thought “Wow. Surely it didn’t make it past that.” So I went inside, looking around my bedroom. I found the bullet hole coming from my wardrobe where I keep my good clothes. Then I found the next hole. And the next. Etc.

All told, the bullet went thru the outer wall, into my wardrobe, through my tuxedo, out of the wardrobe, out of the bedroom and into the utility closet, it grazed the water heater, then it went thru the other side of the closet and into the kitchen. Only then was it stopped by my kitchen cabinets.

I had a bullet rip thru my home just a few feet away from where I was laying in bed. WTF, people?
