"There's nothing so stable as change."

Once saw an episode on the psychology of facial recognition on the discovery channel. There are perhaps dozens of faces we pass by day after day and we never notice, we never register them in our minds. Once we do, after just meeting the person once and putting their face and appearance down in databases of heads we can't help seeing them everywhere thereafter. This gets uncomfortable sometimes, if you've only been briefly introduced to them once. It becomes a law of Murphy's, everywhere you go, there they are.

Yesterday was "V-day" or "Black Thursday."
or "just any other day."
I think I've just been referring to it as Valentine's day.

Saw Pride and Prejudice, Keira Knightley version, with a friend, then listened to her relationship blues until 2 am. She lives in a gorgeous loft with her roommates, it's very asian in there, complete with a buddha shrine, elaborately carved mahogany furniture belonging to the owners. Unfortunately it's located downtown, near the slumming part of town with interesting night life. What's more, the apt is on a side street, she had to come out to look for me when I was trying to locate it. We stayed on our phones and eventually met up on the skytrain platform nearby, I had never been so happy to see a friend there in my life! Just to be entertaining we both started running to each other with our arms open and laughing so hard. I swear I could hear Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet theme in my head.

I definitely go see this movie if you're one of those girls who love romances and happy endings. It's quite witty really and you can never go wrong with Jane Austen. There was some very beautiful cinematography and music.

This morning I got up for my 8 am class. I was late but when I opened the doors, no one was inside. Last day, I arrived late and opened the door to find everyone writing the midterm. Normally this would be your typical nightmare situation, you arrive late for an exam you completely forgot about, but I took the term paper option that replaces the exam. SUCKERS. ...I mean...sth less...mean

Student Biotechnology Network: Careers Expo in Biotech and beyond.

Huge disappointment. there were few booths. few representatives from actual companies. what's more, they were all looking for people with higher degrees, i.e. positions available were for senior scientists and postdoctoral fellows. Otherwise they were looking for co-op students. If you're a BSc, you're essentially in limbo and out of luck. Of the industrial internships available, they were looking mostly for ppl with science degrees and an MBA. They get 200 applicants a year and only about 10 spots are up for grabs. Alternatives: grad school booths in bioinformatics and bioengineering were there. Sighs. If this is representative of what's out there, I'm kind of forced to get another degree of some sort or switch to something new entirely. I know there are government research jobs I could apply for, but for a BSc., they're usually just annual contracts.
