Scholarship hunting (alternatives to NSERCs and government awards)

Precious bit of resource if you're looking to apply for scholarships other than those offered by the government and individual schools. Definitely go to those websites first, however, before checking out this one:

http://www.scholarshipscanada.com/index.asp
a comprehensive list and search engine of memorial scholarships from private individuals and corporations.
how to use the site effectively: create an account (just need email addy) and a profile based on your research interests and possibly activities such as work ex then do an advanced search. this will usually bring up 5 pages of possible scholarships. beware of the requirements and deadlines, some of them are really out of date.
word on the street has it that they're quite an untapped resource, few know about them and the probability of getting one is high, that is if you can fish out appropriate ones.

Also, definitely visit the graduate departmental secretary at your school. They have a binder full of scholarships you can apply to within your field of study.
