I love to do this for every fandom and right now strikes me as a good time for Inception! So who are your favorite characters and how much do you love them all, or not?
I'm not sure Arthur and Eames are less developed than anyone else but Cobb, really - and I mean, let's face it, not even Cobb is particularly developed as characters in general go. He's so addled with grief, we don't know how much of his actions are influenced by that and his desire to get back to his family. This makes it very difficult to discern who he really is as a person. And Mal? We really don't know what she was like as a person, so how can we vote for it? We never met the real Mal! We only have Arthur's word that she was "lovely". Ariadne is so wrapped up in Cobb, she has barely any story of her own. And Eames is wildly interesting, but I feel that as a character, he's kind of undermined by his actor's persona. We only see what he lets us see, which probably isn't very much
( ... )
We do meet Mal when she kills herself and a couple of other angsty scenes. I think her faking murder stunt was a pretty shitty thing to do, I certainly judge her for it.
However, I definitely agree Mal is not a fleshed out characters and Arthur is actually one of the more developed ones.
that we only got a HINT of history - it was like a prompt that ended up spawning millions of fic ideas.
The "Go to sleep, Mr. Eames" was almost shocking tbh, in a good way. I was not expecting so much overt slashiness! No chance for fandom not to be all over that.

Ahh yes, I forgot that, for some reason. Yeah, that was horrible, but then, from her perspective, it wasn't real anyway and she was only helping her husband wake up to the real world and their real children. I was more put off by Cobb, frankly, who did not have that excuse when he risked the others' lives.

They really did act like old exes with a lingering attraction.
AFAIK the straight male audience loves them too, though. They're fun as action heroes and comic relief. I would also agree with the above comment that Arthur is among the best developed characters, not that that says much.
