Although, I do think that for a lot of people a heteronormative worldview is a big reason why they didn't see gay Dumbledore and this outing is therefore a welcome wake up call. This includes me. I suddenly see Albus/Elphias much clearer now. No reason not to take Elphias' words at face value and to treat heavily implied gayness as some sort of insider joke for the informed slasher, only because you didn't buy the book knowing (and being hit over the head by the promotion) that it's going to feature homosexuality.
Of course another big reason for people not seeing it is that his sexuality is really not the most important/remarkable revelation about Dumbledore in the book. There was a lot to digest that was actually spelled out in the text. So really, I'm not trying to give the heteronormative stuff too much credit.
Maybe it's just me, but I can read it as Dumbledore purposely leaving the Gellert bits out because he knew they'd make Elphias jealous. And Doge coming back to find out that Albus had been doing all thses things with Grindelwald that he'd never written about and then feeling hurt and angry.
Definitely not just you! Though I don't think he ever found out the whole truth about GG, at the very least he wasn't told by Dumbledore!
