So, I just finished Torchwood Season 2, and boy, do I have a bone to pick with it.

First off, at least they finally delivered on the whole "I found Gray" thing. Cool.
Fail, however, for making him such a boring piece of shit. I don't mind that he was a homicidal, vengeful *freak*. Nope, I'm fine with that.
But seriously, he *wasn't* homicidal, etc. He was a little boy, throwing a major fucking temper tantrum. Just... I couldn't take him seriously at all. "BWAH YOU LET GO NOW I'M GONNA KILL EVERYONE YOU LOVE AND KILL YOU OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR THE REST OF YOUR... UH, LIFE" really sounds like a little boy throwing a temper tantrum.
The whole character was just badly done, and... well, fucking BORING. I spent half the episode tapping my fingers in boredom, waiting for something interesting to happen.

OTOH, I liked Captain Jack in this episode. He *wasn't* perfect, and he really wasn't sanctimonious. I liked that he didn't shoot his brother.

I really don't approve of how they got rid of Owen and Tosh. I LIKED Owen and Tosh, fuck it. They didn't get enough screen time, which pissed me off. But okay, breakdown.

Owen I liked from the start. I liked his snark, I liked his cynicism, I liked how he was a bastard and a nice guy at the same time. I liked his flaws, I liked his brilliance, I really liked him. I was pissed enough when he died the first time, but the second time it was like... you are shitting me, right? Also, I think it would've been hilarious to have more of the Man Who Cannot Die and the Man Who's Dead But Not Really. (Yeah, in the canon, Owen said Jack gets to live forever and he gets to die forever, but I like my version better, so :P)

Tosh I didn't like at first. I kinda agreed with what Owen said to her once: "Sometimes, Tosh, I think the stick up your arse has a stick up its arse."

But she *grew*. She really did. She went through a shit-ton of character development by the end of season 2. And by the end, I liked who she had become. I *really* hate it when characters grow and develop and then that's it for them. It happened with Tosh, it happened with Donna in Doctor Who, and both times, I was pissed.

I didn't like that the door closed right on Owen. I'm really sick of that one. It's happened in Doctor Who more than once, and it's just falsely dramatic. OMG, are they gonna make it? gets old. I think Owen's death... er, his whatever, would've been more dramatic if he knew from the start that he was going to die there. If he knew that there was no way out once they averted the cooling.

And Gray appearing out of bloody nowhere and shooting Tosh was like... wow, deus ex machina in reverse. Again, just falsely dramatic.

All in all, it was a convenient fucking way to knock off two characters.

Now, that leaves us with Jack, Gwen, and Ianto. There are *problems* with this. At least, I have problems with this.
First off, it means that there will be EVEN MORE GWEN. I do NOT like Gwen particularly. I don't like her "OMG I'M SO COMPASSIONATE" thing. Yeah, we get it. You're compassionate -- and you cheat on your boyfriend and shoot things. Very fucking compassionate. I don't like the whole "OMG I'M IN A HAPPY RELATIONSHIP, EVERYONE ADMIRE IT" thing.

Jack and Ianto are awesome, I have no problems with them. BUT, it's gonna turn into a third-wheel type of thing with just the three of them. Well, it's got the potential to.

Also, the three of them aren't enough to do this job. No one in Torchwood was redundant, so there's a lot more risk involved now. And more people are gonna die. And if it's Ianto, I'm gonna throw something at the TV.

All in all, it was a fucking weak way to end an awesome season.

torchwood, rants are healthy i swear, doctor who
