i woke up this morning in a panic, thinking it was saturday for some reason and i needed to be at work by 8 am. luckily i realized it was 7 am. and it was thursday. then i couldn't remember why i wasn't going to work.
this i find is a much nicer wake up panic than last thanksgiving, when I woke at 7 am startled and scared because i could not hear booming, clanking trucks bobbing along my tore up brooklyn street. there is nothing more frightening than silence in New York. anyhow, then i lay in bed trying to decipher that rancid smell in my home for a while, and i eventually identified it as something to do with the dog, and him possibly being ill. upon inspection, i learned the first floor neighbor was cooking a turkey.
In other news:
on monday i woke at 4 am and drove from OKC to austin to be at work by 2 pm. i got to work at 1:55 pm, set my purse down in the office, said hi to my big boss, and had just gotten my coat off one shoulder when she turned to me and said, "We have to talk about something big."
now, i've never seen my cute, petite, fed pixie haireddistrict manager with this face before, so i was standing there staring at her with my coat half off wondering if i should continue to remove it or put it back on for quick exit. she sighs and swivels her chair, i decide i didn't do anything bad that i can think of (other than tell her I was going to OKC during vacation blackout the day before I left rather than ask nicely).
and she says, "Em needs some help over at Highland."
So i said stupidly, "Today?"
And she laughed and said, "No."
